    Our Final Verdict

We give Popov Leather an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.

    Quality: 5/5

    Variety: 5/5

    Aesthetic: 5/5

    Fit: 4.7/5

    Ease of Use: 4.7/5

Your pup deserves better than a nylon leash and collar, just saying. I know there have been so many improvements to the daily walking experience when I started upgrading my pup from the cheap traditional flat collars to something much nicer. Leather is one of the higher quality materials you can invest in, offering both a beautiful aesthetic and the durability that leather is well known for.

Traditional nylon collars tend to chafe skin and cause irritation on your pup, not to mention destroy the fur in that area. Leather collars (especially those lined correctly) are buttery smooth, provide a much more comfortable fit, and keep the fur beautiful underneath. Although leather collars require a little more TLC than nylon, they’re well worth it for your pup’s comfort.

Popov Leather is a leather specialty site offering collars and leashes for your four-legged best friend, and I find that their particular products are top-tier in the market (at a great price!).

    About Popov Leather

Popov Leather Dog Collars & Leashes - english tan and natural color selections

Like many passionate businesses, Popov Leather started as a hobby before it became what it is now. In 2013, the company’s founder Ryan Popoff picked up a leatherworking kit and set a goal to create a leather wallet.

Today, Popov Leather is a thriving business comprising more than just Ryan Popoff and a few leathermaking kits. With many professional leather workers on the team, each piece feels like a beautiful custom-made product (because it is!). You can even watch videos on how they make each product on their social media channels.

The leather dog collars and leashes keep durability at the forefront of their product quality and design. The company promises that the leash will withstand diligent tugging for an excited pup and that you don’t need to worry about the collar snapping off.

    Key Features

Popov Leather Dog Collars & Leashes

Popov Leather proudly stands out from the rest of the market, predominantly for their high-end, quality products.

    Price

Considering you’re getting a beautiful premium leather combo. The collar (no matter the size) and leash cost $44 each, making a set run for $88.

This is a steal compared to other leather dog leashes and custom collars, which often run well over $100. I have one biothane collar that is $120, and that’s not even leather! It’s also nice that there is no price difference between a larger collar and a smaller one, as large dog owners often get the short end of the stick with this.

Popov Leather offers free shipping on orders over $75 and there is also a 90-day return policy. They even have a lifetime guarantee on all heritage leather products offered, which shows how confident Popov Leather is in their products.

    Materials, Quality, and Durability

The quality of the collars and leashes is of the utmost top tier. Each piece feels handmade… and that’s because it is!

The leather is USA full-grain that will patina over time in a very beautiful way. The hardware is all brass with no nickel in it. The edges of the leather are not dyed, which helps prevent any of the dye from transferring when the collar or leash gets wet. The edges of the collar are beveled and burnished with beeswax, making it super soft and comfortable for your pup.

Leather is known for its ability to withstand many elements and only looks better with wear and age. The collar and leash will both be able to withstand water and the elements, with minimal maintenance required.

    Variety

There are four colors to choose from for both the collars and leashes (as they can be a matching set):

    • English Tan
    • Heritage Brown
    • Natural
    • Black

    Style

The collars and leashes are absolutely beautiful. The colors are stunning and rich, and I love the beautiful leather detail. The craftsmanship is top-notch!

    Size

All of the collars range in size from 9” to 26”, able to fit on pretty much any dog out there!

All the leashes are 5 feet long, perfect for a comfortable stroll with your pup. Long enough to give your dog some freedom but short enough to always have full control.

Popov Leather offers the option of engraving the collar with your pup’s name and/or address! This is an extra $9 but looks beautiful.

Our Reviews of the Popov Leather Dog Collars & Leashes

In my package, I received two collars and their matching leashes in English Tan and Natural.

    1. Dog Collar: English Tan & Natural

Popov Leather Dog Collar - English Tan and Natural

You can immediately feel how much of a premium product the Popov leather collar is, regardless of color. From the soft lining on the inside to the quality leather feel on the outside! The collar was able to withstand the rainstorm that swept across my city well, with no damage to it whatsoever.

Both colors are absolutely stunning, with the English Tan offering a rich orange tone and the Natural akin to what leather would look like undyed. The bevel edges and craftsmanship make the collar a true beauty to look at, with the brass hardware getting a nice patina over time.

All of the collars range in size from 9” to 26”, so the flexibility in size helps all pups be able to enjoy this collar. With the collar arriving with a few holes under and over the size as well, the fit can be adjusted as the dog changes in size throughout its life.

    Pros

    • Soft lining prevents fur matting and skin irritation
    • Lots of sizes to choose from
    • Can withstand water and rain
    • Perfect length at 5”
    • Great price
    • Custom engraving available

    Cons

    • The Natural collar has more difficulty buckling and unbuckling than the English Tan. (I’m not sure if this is just a coincidence or if the material is treated differently)
    • May be too wide for smaller dogs

    2. Dog Leash: English Tan & Natural

Popov Leather Dog Leash - English Tan & Natural

The leash colors matched their corresponding collars above perfectly and were equally as comfortable. Just like the other Popov Leather products, the leash felt buttery and perfect in hand, easy to use for hours and hours on end with no chafing or wear on the hand. The construction is very durable, without the feeling that the leather will rip on a hard-pulling pup. At 5’, the length is perfect for some casual walking.

The leash was durable in the rainstorm as well, and it arguably got even more wet than the collar did! There was a moment when the leash was dropped in a puddle on accident and came out unscathed completely. The clasp is very strong but equally easy to use, and I often find myself matching it on other collars I own as well.

Much like the collars, beautiful craftsmanship – you can truly feel how much the company prides itself on the leather goods they make in-house.

    Pros

    • Beautiful, rich colors
    • Durable and high-quality leather
    • High-end dust bag included
    • Comfortable to hold the loop
    • The clasp is very easy to use
    • Easy to maintain

    Cons

    • Limited length option, only available in 5”

    FAQ

Can you get the collar and leash wet?

Yes, you can! Both the collar and leash can handle rain, even pouring rain. After getting home, just wipe the collar and leash down and let it air dry. Don’t apply heat such as a blow dryer; just let it air dry.

How do you take care of the collar and leash?

Maintenance is very easy. Every once in a while, wash the leather with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry. Popov Leather has leather maintenance scrubs and balms for deeper cleaning needs.

What is the longevity of the collar and leash?

The beauty of leather is that it gets better over time! The collar is designed to remain durable for many, many years. If for any reason something happens, Popov Leather has a lifetime guarantee on all of their quality leather products. Do make note that leather can stretch over time, so do check the fit every once in a while.

    Our Experience With Popov Leather

I admit, I am an avid dog collar collector. My pup Lorelei has a full shelf of custom collars, an addiction that started during the pandemic. I didn’t need to shop for myself as I wasn’t going anywhere, but I wanted my dog to be fancy! Needless to say, I was very excited to get my hands on some Popov Leather.

I was impressed before I even opened the package – the bag the collars and leashes were delivered in had such a cute design! What amazing attention to detail. First impressions are everything, and this hit the mark.

The package contained four dust bags containing the four products (two collars and two leashes). I loved the dust bags; they were also thick and durable, with a very subtle logo on the tag. Again, this thoughtfulness from the company ranks them with a big A+ from me. I can feel how much Popov Leather cares about what they do.

In terms of use, as someone who adopted a little dog, the fit is where I have a wee bit of a comment. Lorelei is a 10lb mixed breed (mostly papillon), so, definitely on the small side.

On the positive, the collar fits perfectly in length (she has an exactly 12” neck). There are enough holes to adjust for slightly larger than 12” and smaller than 12”, which allows for fluctuation as she may change in size as she progresses through life. I love this feature.

As for the downside, the collar in width is too thick for her neck, and I feel it would be too wide for any dog even smaller than her. She’s not used to collars that take up her entire neck, so this was something to work around. I am also lucky that she isn’t a dog that pulls, and she’s been trained to heel on a leash, but I can imagine a small dog that tugs wouldn’t be having a great time with this fit.

The buckle is also a bit heavy, which I understand because of its high-quality material and finish. But, again, something to consider if you have a very small dog.

That being said, this is the perfect size for medium to large dogs – 100%!

Regarding using the collar, I had a little bit of trouble, which isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but I felt it needed to be mentioned for those with pups that may be more difficult. The leather and the lining make the buckle more difficult to use. It often gets stuck and is a tight squeeze. To be honest, I think this happens to all leather products and might take some time to wear down.

That being said, I have absolutely zero doubt that this collar would ever unbuckle itself or fall off, which is a huge bonus for Lorelei’s safety! I would prefer this over a buckle that is quick to put on but isn’t secure. It’s a huge confidence boost knowing that there is no way my dog can get this collar off on her own.

The leash was perfection – it felt soft and comfortable in my hand, and the length was my preferred 5 feet. It clips easily to the collar, and the matching set looks so fancy. I liked that the lining of the leash was the same as the collar, I can feel the same comfort my pup does.

As I mentioned in the intro, leather does have so many upsides to the usual nylon collars and leashes. Both my pup’s and my skin feel much better using the Popov Leather sets, and her fur is not matted, tangled, or rubbed off. This was always a big deal with Lorelei being a long-haired dog; I hated having to work out mats or damaged fur from using stereotypical collar products.

We had a bit of rain this weekend, and the collar and leash had no trouble with the inclement weather. Again, the awesome benefits of leather – it’s so durable. Yes, it requires a slight bit of extra maintenance, but it’s a few minutes out of your day occasionally – no biggie! The dust bag helps me keep the collar and leashes protected when not in use, and when we are out and about, a possible quick wipe-down is all we need. The collar and leash will look even better over time, as leather tends to age like a fine wine!

We have received many compliments on the Natural color and the English Tan, and I could not be more pleased.

    Conclusion

All-in-all, if you’re looking for a high-end leather collar for your pup, Popov Leather is the way to go. You get a lot of bang for your buck on the quality, style, and attention to detail the company put in (such as the beautiful dust bag). You can feel how much Popov Leather cares with their detailed care sheet online and beautiful packaging!

Both the collar and leash feel great in my hand and certainly elevated our walking game for sure. The colors are equally as gorgeous; I could honestly stare at my set all day.

This leash and collar duo would be best for trained pups who don’t mind a bit of fumbling with the buckle here and there in the beginning. I am sure this will become a much easier process over time as the leather and interior fabric wear, but something to note.

When your favorite canine isn’t hyped up and ready to play, chances are good they’re sleeping. Sleep is a big part of a dog’s life; in fact, dogs sleep around 12 to 14 hours a day, if not more! (And that doesn’t even count the time they spend awake but lazing about.) But why do dogs sleep so much?

Your pup sleeps so much for several reasons, ranging from genetics to the world around them. All of these factors can affect how much (or little) your dog sleeps. Ready to find out what these reasons are? Keep reading for the six potential reasons dogs sleep so much!

    Divider-Dog Paw and Bone- New

The 6 Reasons That Dogs Sleep So Much

    1. Age

Your dog’s age or life stage can greatly affect how much they sleep in a day. Due to differing energy needs, puppies and senior dogs require more sleep than adult canines.

Puppies are still growing and using tons of energy during play, so they expend a lot of energy each day. This means they need much more sleep than an adult dog who is no longer growing and plays less often. Puppies can actually sleep 20 hours a day during their first few months!

Senior canines tend to sleep more as well. They get tired more easily than they used to and have less energy. This makes them want to sleep more than adult dogs.

    2. Breed

Some dog breeds simply sleep more often. In general, large and small dog breeds tend to sleep more than medium-sized breeds. And if you have a working dog breed, they likely spend more time being active and hyper alert than a non-working dog breed, which can lead to them sleeping less often.

Every dog breed is different, and some are just hardwired to sleep more than others! Keep in mind that individual dogs within a breed are different too, so some may sleep more than others.

    3. Nutrition

Dogs lacking proper nutrition and a balanced diet might be more tired than those that receive all the nutrients they need. Without a balanced diet, a pup may miss out on some of the nutrients that help provide energy, making them more tired than normal. Think about days when you eat nothing but junk food; you probably feel less awake and ready to seize the day than when you eat healthier, right? The same goes for dogs. So, be sure your canine pal is consuming dog food that provides all the nutrients they require for their specific breed and age.

    4. Boredom

Napping might be the first thing you turn to when you’re lounging around the house, bored out of your mind. It can also be the first thing your pup turns to when bored. And dogs can get easily bored if they don’t have enough to physically and mentally stimulate them. Loneliness can factor in here, too; if you and your family are away from home for most of the day, leaving your pup alone, they’re probably lonely and bored because no one is around to play with them. Even leaving out toys for your dog while you’re away might not ward off the boredom entirely.

You can help prevent boredom by engaging your dog in play or taking them for a nice walk when you’re at home. If your pup is stuck home alone often because everyone is at work or school, consider investing in interactive dog toys or a dog walker. Both can help keep your pet entertained when no one is there.

    5. Stress

Stress affects us all, canines included. Just a few things that can cause your pup to become stressed are loud noises, having to share eating space, losing a loved one, and changes to routine. Like us, stress can affect how much or little a dog sleeps, so it could be the reason behind a dog sleeping so much.

How can you tell if your dog is stressed over something? You’ll see certain signs, such as:

    • Hiding
    • Aggression
    • Pacing
    • Being clingy
    • Engaging in destructive behavior

If your dog is experiencing stress, you may be able to help them on your own if you can identify the source of the stress. However, you might also want to contact your vet.

    6. Health Related Issues

Has your dog been ill recently or suffered an injury? Then, they could be sleeping a lot to aid in recovery. Bodies in recovery require more sleep to help the healing process, so a recently sick or injured pup may sleep more often while on the mend.

If your canine companion hasn’t been ill or injured, they might sleep so much because they’re becoming unwell. Many health issues can cause changes in sleeping patterns, including diabetes and kidney disease. So, if your dog is sleeping more than is normal or exhibiting signs of not feeling well, contact your vet.

    hepper-dog-paw-divider2

How Much Sleep Is Too Much Sleep?

Because the amount of sleep dogs need varies by canine, it can be difficult to determine how much sleep is too much. Generally, adult dogs won’t need to sleep more than 14 or 15 hours a day. However, some dog breeds might sleep more than that on a normal basis and be fine.

You know your dog and their sleeping patterns best, so you should have a pretty good idea of how often your pup sleeps. If you see them sleeping more than seems typical or are simply concerned, it’s best to contact your dog’s vet for a consultation.

    Divider-Dog bone- New

    Conclusion

Our canine pals sleep a lot! So, if your dog sleeps 12 to 14 hours a day, it’s probably normal. There are many reasons for dogs to sleep as much as they do, and most of the reasons aren’t something to be concerned about. However, if you see your pup sleeping more often than usual, they could be bored, stressed, or dealing with a health issue.

Keeping an eye on your dog’s habits, sleeping and otherwise, is wise, so you’ll have an easier time noticing when something might be off.

    • Donald Trump is suing the Pulitzer Prize Board for awarding coverage of his ties to Russia.
    • The board said two independent reviews concluded the prizes should stand.
    • In depositions, his lawyers are seen hunting for the identities of those anonymous reviewers.

In an overlooked lawsuit, Donald Trump’s lawyers are exhibiting a habit from his White House days: Hunting for anonymous sources.

In transcripts of four depositions obtained by Business Insider, Trump’s attorneys had the opportunity to question journalists about a mystery that has vexed them for years: Who are the anonymous consultants who reviewed the Pulitzer Prizes awarded to The New York Times and The Washington Post for their coverage of Trump’s connections to Russia?

The depositions were taken last year for a lawsuit Trump brought in December 2022, suing the Pulitzer Prize Board, which administers American journalism’s highest honors. He accused the board and its 18 members of defaming him by awarding the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting to The Washington Post and The New York Times for their coverage of Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and the country’s connections to Trump’s presidential campaign and administration.

In his lawsuit, Trump complained that journalists and the Pulitzer board conspired together as part of a larger “Russia Collusion Hoax,” which the former president claimed was “fully debunked.”

In reality, investigations from Robert Mueller and a US Senate intelligence committee found numerous connections between Russian efforts and the Trump campaign, even as they did not conclude that Trump personally fostered them.

Much of Trump’s lawsuit focuses on a July 2022 statement from the Pulitzer board, where it announced the prizes would stand after Trump called on it to rescind the awards.

The board announced that it commissioned “two independent reviews” of the work submitted by the Times and the Post that won the 2018 prize, which “were conducted by individuals with no connection to the institutions whose work was under examination, nor any connection to each other.”

Each review independently concluded the prize-winning stories were not “discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes,” the board said.

To this day, the Pulitzer board has not disclosed who did the reviews and what they consisted of. Nor have its members explained why they are keeping the information a secret.

Trump’s lawyers are trying to get to the bottom of it. In the depositions Business Insider obtained, Trump’s lawyers question the defendants — all journalists — about what they describe as their “use of anonymous sources” with the Pulitzer statement.

“Without identifying those individuals, I guess we have no way to verify the truth of the statement,” Trump’s lawyer R. Quincy Bird asked investigative journalist Katherine Boo in her deposition, taken in August 2023. “So Ms. Boo, I’ll ask it directly, who conducted the external review?”

At each turn, a lawyer for the Pulitzer Board members stopped their clients from answering.

The hunt for the identity of the Pulitzer board’s reviewers demonstrates how some of Trump’s attitudes toward media — an obsession with anonymous sources and paranoia of supposed shadowy figures he claims to believe are conspiring against him — have leaked beyond the political arena and into his lawsuits.

Chad R. Bowman, an attorney at the law firm Ballard Spahr, said in a deposition transcript that the identities of the people who conducted the reviews for the Pulitzer board were subject to “First Amendment privilege to protect sources.”

“I’m going to instruct the witness not to answer on the basis of First Amendment privilege,” Bowman said in the deposition.

Trump’s lawyers indicated they disagreed with Bowman’s assertion, but haven’t yet filed any court motions asking the judge to force the defendants to identify the reviewers — a step normally taken when lawyers don’t get the answers they want during a deposition.

Marjorie Miller, the administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, declined to comment on the lawsuit.

“We are not at liberty to discuss this case,” she told Business Insider.

The journalists whom Trump’s lawyers deposed did, however, offer some characterization of the “consultants” who conducted the reviews. Miller, who sat for a deposition on May 23 last year, testified the people were “widely recognized as leaders” in American journalism.

Boo told Trump’s lawyers that she was not involved in the first review, which took place in 2019. She said she had confidence in the results of the second review, which took place in 2021, and took additional information into account.

“It was a person who had no relationship and person who had the stature and, I believe, ethical clarity and the moral rigor to be frank with the board should problems with those submissions be submitted,” Boo said.

The depositions shed light on the Pulitzer’s secretive reviews

Trump’s attacks on journalism remain a pillar of his political message. And he has extended his language railing against a “witch hunt” against him to include his many legal problems — including four separate grand jury criminal cases — as he runs in the 2024 presidential election. In 2023, a PAC Trump controls gave over $260,000 in donor money to Weber, Crabb, & Wein, the law firm representing him in the Pulitzer case, according to a Business Insider analysis of disbursement records.

The Pulitzer Prize Board is hosted by Columbia University, in Manhattan, which manages the small organization’s payroll and offers institutional support. But Trump brought his lawsuit in Florida, arguing the state has jurisdiction in the defamation lawsuit because he lives at Mar-a-Lago.

His lawsuit also points out that the Pulitzer board includes Neil Brown, a Florida resident who serves as the president of the Poynter Institute for Media Studies and worked as the top editor at the Tampa Bay Times.

A judge overseeing the case blocked Trump’s lawyers from issuing subpoenas for depositions and records for the merits of the case, allowing only jurisdictional discovery.

The defendants — which include New Yorker editor in chief David Remnick, USA Today editor in chief Nicole Carroll, former Columbia University president Lee Bollinger, former Los Angeles Times executive editor Kevin Merida, and novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen, among others — all submitted paperwork describing their lack of connections to the state of Florida.

Bollinger, president of Columbia University, which hosts the prestigious journalism awards, announced Miller has been named as the new administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes.

Trump’s lawyers deposed Miller, along with three board members who served as cochairs when the 2022 statement was issued: Katherine Boo, New York Times opinion columnist Gail Collins, and Associated Press standards editor John Daniszewski.

Those depositions were supposed to focus on obtaining information to bolster Trump’s jurisdictional arguments. But his lawyer’s questions frequently went outside those lines, Bowman complained during them.

During Miller’s deposition, for instance, Bird attempted to ask questions about how the Pulitzer board came to hire her in the administrator role.

“Counsel, I don’t want to engage in argument with you,” Bowman snapped. “I disagree that you can ask any question whether or not it’s relating to jurisdiction because it has some tie to a document.”

Though the Pulitzer board members declined to identify who conducted the reviews, their depositions shed some light on the process.

Daniszewski said the Pulitzer board had “engaged two outside consultants” toward the end of the tenure of the administrator who preceded Miller, the publisher Dana Canady, to consider “five or six complaints” about the prizes. Some of those complaints were about historical issues, and one was about Trump’s complaint about the prizes to the Times and the Post.

“They recommended to the board that no action be taken and that the basis for the complaint was unfounded,” Daniszewski said in his deposition.

As more complaints from Trump rolled in, the Pulitzer board debated whether to conduct another review. Boo, Miller, and Daniszewski all said the board gets occasional complaints and doesn’t always find them worth addressing, but the Pulitzer board took Trump’s criticism seriously.

“Not everyone on the board agreed that the facts in the case warranted external review, and there was a debate, and the majority decided that it did warrant external review,” Boo said.

Because Trump and his lawyers had explicitly demanded that the Pulitzers rescind the prize — and made a series of specific complaints in a series of letters — the board decided to commission a reexamination of the articles.

“Even though we believed that we had already looked at it, we thought we should do our diligence and reexamine the question because it was coming from him,” Daniszewski said.

The board members said that the people who conducted the two independent reviews of the Times’ and Posts’ Pulitzer submissions did not live in Florida, nor did they have an affiliation with the Times or Post. Collins said she recused herself from the 2018 deliberations for the national reporting prize because the Times was in contention, and had been recused from the subsequent discussions about independent investigations.

“You get up, you sit in the hallway for a very long time, but that’s what I did basically,” Collins recalled in her deposition, recounting the 2018 board meeting where they deliberated the awards.

“At some point, somebody opens the door and says come on back in, we’ve awarded the prize to ‘X,’ and then you come back and the next series comes up,” she later added.

Trump’s other lawsuits over ‘Russiagate’ have failed

Trump filed an updated version of the suit in December 2023, further arguing he was subsequently vindicated by Justice Department Special Counsel John Durham, who investigated the roots of the FBI’s investigations into the 2016 Trump campaign’s links to Russia.

Lawyers for the Pulitzer board members asked the judge to dismiss the case, noting that a different judge dismissed a separate “Russian collusion hoax” suit Trump filed against Hillary Clinton and James Comey and issued nearly $1 million in sanctions against the former president’s lawyers in that case.

“It is a petty effort by one of the most powerful men in the world to silence speech he dislikes, filed in a county where neither he nor any of the defendants lives or works or has any meaningful connections whatsoever,” they wrote.

The lawyers filed a separate motion for Brown, arguing the judge should dismiss the suit because the awards were simply not defamatory.

Bird didn’t respond to multiple requests for comment. Chad Bowman, a Ballard Spahr attorney representing the Pulitzer board members, directed Business Insider to court filings.

Trump has also previously filed separate lawsuits against the Times and Post in the United States over opinion articles about his 2016 campaign’s ties to Russia, as well as a UK lawsuit against Christopher Steele, who wrote a dossier he falsely claimed formed the basis of Mueller’s inquiry. All of those lawsuits have been dismissed by judges as meritless.

Bird also demonstrated familiarity with the vast universe of media criticism about press coverage of the so-called “Russiagate” scandal. He asked about former Times journalist Jeff Gerth’s four-part examination in the Columbia Journalism Review of the coverage, which argued that the media organizations misused anonymous sources and withheld information in ways that misled readers. Daniszewski said he was familiar with the critique, and that Gerth was not one of the prize reviewers.

The depositions sometimes touched on other subjects, such as the perennial debate of whether aspiring journalists should go to graduate school. While some of the four journalists obtained master’s degrees, none went to graduate school for journalism.

“I will say as an aside, it is remarkable the — I guess the achievement of several people that we’ve deposed that have not gone to J-school have found themselves on the board is interesting to me,” Bird mused in one deposition.

The journalists also had a chance to reflect on the experience of being deposed.

“I appreciate your time,” Bird told Boo at the end of her deposition. “You’ve now had your first deposition, I hope you look upon it fondly.”

“Hopefully it’s my last,” Boo said.

Disclosure: Ballard Spahr represents a coalition of over 30 media organizations, which includes Business Insider, in media access litigation in Donald Trump’s criminal cases in Florida and Washington, DC.

  • How Much Skin Care Product To Use: Are You Applying The Right Amount?

How Much Skin Care Product To Use: Are You Applying The Right Amount?

    [ad_1]

Wondering how much skin care product to use for each step? When it comes to your skin care, size matters — and applying a drop versus a dollop can make all the difference in the effectiveness of your routine. Apply too little product and you may miss out on its full benefits; apply too much and you risk irritating and overloading the skin. The trick is to find a happy medium. Read on for our guide to applying your skin care products properly.

Cleanser | Toner | Essence | Exfoliant | Face Masks & Treatments | Serum, Oil Or Concentrate | Moisturizer For Face Vs Body | Eye Cream | SPF | When To Apply Skin Care

How Much Skin Care Product To Use

One of the most common skin care mistakes is applying too much product. When applying professional skin care products in particular, it’s important to keep in mind that they are highly concentrated. This means that you need to use even less to experience their full benefits. Follow this guide for application quantities that are just right:

Are you applying the right amount of products?

    Cleanser

    Blueberry-sized amount

Over time, using too much cleanser (or washing too frequently) can compromise your skin’s moisture barrier. This jeopardizes its natural ability to keep your skin hydrated and balanced, leaving you with a dry and irritated complexion. On the other hand, using too little face wash can impede a thorough cleanse. When dirt and debris are left behind, pores can become clogged, potentially causing breakouts

We recommend using a blueberry-sized amount of your favorite cleanser to clear buildup and keep the skin’s moisture barrier intact. For example, you cleanse using the Stone Crop Gel Wash, which contains botanical extracts to help even the look of your complexion and minimize the appearance of blemishes. Follow our cleansing tips and be gentle with your skin! Use lukewarm water and avoid rubbing your skin too vigorously.

    Toner

    3 spritzes

Toners complete the cleansing process and prep your skin for the rest of your routine. These fast-absorbing mists remove lingering impurities and replenish the skin with essential moisture and hydration. Eminence Organics Lead Skin Care Trainer Natalie Pergar calls toning the “conditioning” step of your skin care routine: It balances your complexion and provides a base layer of hydration. This helps your skin to better absorb the subsequent skin care products in your routine.

Toners should be used morning and night, immediately after cleansing. Apply three spritzes of toner directly onto the skin — or, moisten a cotton pad and gently sweep the toner across your face and neck.

Pro Tip: Apply toner while your skin is still slightly damp — this helps its active ingredients absorb more efficiently.

    Essence

    A large blueberry-sized amount

You can use an essence after cleansing and toning, and also before your finishing products. Essences help to prime your skin for all of the additional products to follow. Filled with beneficial ingredients, essences are designed to help skin appear more hydrated and smooth. For example, you can apply the Kombucha Microbiome Balancing Essence which is formulated with pre, pro* and postbiotics to enhance the skin’s luminosity. Dispense a large blueberry-sized amount of essence into your hands or on a cotton pad. Apply by pressing it into the skin until fully absorbed and leave it on.

    Exfoliant

    Raspberry-sized amount

Exfoliating regularly is an essential part of a healthy skin care routine. While your skin turns over naturally, it can get bogged down by a buildup of oil, dead skin and impurities on its surface. Exfoliation helps boost skin cell turnover by sloughing away dead skin and clearing the way for new skin cells to rise to the surface.

While we agree that exfoliation plays a major role in skin health, it can be easy to overdo it. Exfoliating too often — or with abrasive products — can cause more harm than good. To gently and effectively exfoliate your skin, we recommend the following:

    • Powder Exfoliant: For a powder exfoliant like our Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant, dispense three shakes into the palm of your hand for a raspberry-sized amount. Add a few drops of water and gently massage the paste into your skin. Rinse thoroughly.
    • Exfoliating Peel: Dispense a raspberry-sized amount (or one to two pumps) of exfoliating solution onto a cotton round. Apply in circular motions covering the face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Leave on.

    Face Masks & Treatments

Cherry-sized amount for the face and neck

Masking is one of the best ways to give your skin an immediate boost. Face masks contain concentrated amounts of vitamins and nutrient-rich ingredients that are delivered under occlusion which helps them to absorb more efficiently. There is a mask for every skin type and skin concern. All skin types benefit from hydration and the Strawberry Rhubarb Masque does just that. It contains a Botanical Hyaluronic Acid Complex that is deeply hydrating and smoothes and plumps skin to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

When it comes to applying a face mask, less is more. Natalie recommends applying a pantyhose-thin layer over the entire face or neck. Simply emulsify a cherry-sized amount of mask in your hand with a few drops of water. Apply evenly and allow it to dry for five to ten minutes. Gently remove with lukewarm water. Natalie’s top mask recommendation is the Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Masque, a refreshing mask that contains a blend of citrus, leafy greens and avocado oil to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

    Serum, Oil Or Concentrate

Pea-sized amount or about 2-3 drops

When it comes to oils, serums and concentrates, a little goes a long way. These potent formulas contain concentrated amounts of active ingredients that boost the skin’s overall health and target specific skin concerns and conditions. They can be used separately, or layered to enhance their benefits and tackle multiple problems at once.

Because they are so highly concentrated, you only need a small amount of oil, serum or concentrate to experience its full benefits. For a serum or oil, we recommend pressing three drops into clean skin. One powerful hydrator for your skin is the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum. Apply a thin layer over the entire face, or apply to the areas you wish to target one to three times per day for a youthful-looking glow.

For concentrates like our Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Concentrate or Bamboo Firming Fluid (which have a lotion-like texture), even less is more. Apply just one to two pumps for optimal results.

    Moisturizer For Face Vs Body

    Blueberry-sized for the face
    Cherry-sized amount for the body

We’re all guilty of being a bit heavy-handed when it comes to applying moisturizers, but more isn’t necessarily better. Applying too much moisturizer can actually limit the skin’s ability to properly absorb its beneficial ingredients and cause product to accumulate on its surface. The result: Congested pores and lackluster skin.

For your face skin care routine, get the most out of your moisturizer by applying a blueberry-sized amount to your face, neck and décolletage. Use gentle, upward-sweeping motions, starting from your chest and moving towards your hairline. This action stimulates circulation and gives your skin a healthy-looking glow. You may enjoy the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Hydrator, a lightweight vegan gel-cream that transforms the look of a dull complexion into a youthful-looking glow. Natalie recommends the Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer with botanical hyaluronic acid to plump and nourish the look of your skin.

When it comes to body care, you can apply a cherry-sized amount of moisturizer to improve dryness anywhere on your body. Slather it on your legs, arms, hands, neck, elbows, stomach — you get the idea! The Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Body Lotion is a delicious choice and infuses the skin with immediate head-to-toe hydration thanks to aloe, panthenol and a Botanical Hyaluronic Acid Complex that hydrates and preserves moisture in the skin.

    Eye Cream

Grain of rice amount for each eye

The eye area is the thinnest and most fragile part of your face. For this reason, it can quickly display dryness, dark circles, puffiness and the visible signs of aging. Packed with vitamins and nutrient-rich ingredients, eye creams moisturize and soothe dry skin as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles under eyes.

This delicate area needs to be treated with care. When applying eye creams, a pea-sized amount is plenty for the entire eye area. We recommend dispensing one pump of your favorite eye cream and gently patting it into the skin around both eyes, taking care to avoid pulling and stretching.

Watch this video from Natalie to learn the proper technique:

    SPF

    Pea-sized amount
1/4 to 1/2 tsp of the Radiant Protection SPF Fluid

Applying sunscreen is non-negotiable: Sufficient sun protection is key to protecting your skin from irreversible sun damage. Whether you choose a physical (mineral) or chemical sunscreen, this is an essential skin care step that shields skin from the drying and aging effects of UV exposure. But how much sun protection is enough? A pea-sized amount of our all-mineral SPF moisturizers covers both the face and neck. When it comes to our Radiant Protection SPF Fluid, we recommend using 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon. For more information, you can watch Natalie as she demonstrates the right amount of product to use in your daily routine.

    When To Apply Skin Care

When you apply your skin care is just as important as the amount of product you use. While most skin care products should be applied both morning and night, there are weekly and monthly treatments that you can add to enhance your daily skin care routine. Here’s our guide for what to apply when:

    Daily (Morning And Night)

    • Cleanser
    • Toner
    • Serum/Oil/Concentrate
    • Moisturizer
    • Eye Cream
    • SPF
    • Weekly (1-2 Times)
    • Exfoliate (after toning)
    • Mask (after toning and/or exfoliating)

  • Kingston Lafferty Design includes “sensual” red kitchen in home renovation

Kingston Lafferty Design includes “sensual” red kitchen in home renovation

    [ad_1]

Dublin studio Kingston Lafferty Design has transformed the architecture and interiors of this family home in Cork, Ireland, which features 1970s-style shapes and colours informed by the work of designer Verner Panton.

Positioned on Lovers Walk hill overlooking the city of Cork, the townhouse – called Lovers Walk – was renovated by Kingston Lafferty Design.

Kingston Lafferty Design completed the renovation in Cork

The studio originally planned to just update the interiors, but decided that a more extensive architectural transformation was needed after discovering structural instabilities in the home.

Kingston Lafferty Design removed all of the floors, which lacked foundations and insulation in their concrete slab, and completely reconfigured the two-storey property’s layout.

    Oak-lined hallway with colourful accents
Rooms on the ground floor were designed around an oak-lined hallway

“As the building was originally built in the 1970s, we wanted to return to its roots,” studio founder Róisín Lafferty told Dezeen.

“We thrived on inspiration from Verner Panton with his use of strong clashing colour, playful shapes and oversized elements,” she added.

One of these spaces is a “sensual” red kitchen

The ground floor was adapted to include an open-plan kitchen defined by a counter, island and splashback finished in veiny red quartzite.

Ruby-toned timber was used to create the geometric cabinets. When layered with the quartzite, “it sounds like a disaster, but it’s a delight,” said the designer.

The living room follows a similar design to the kitchen

The space, described by the studio as a “sensual red-toned jewel kitchen”, is one of several rooms on the ground floor of Lovers Walk that were designed around the central, oak-lined hallway.

“We used the hallway as the core of the house, which grounded the space with pops of colour stemming from it. Each room leading from the core appears like a framed view or window of colour,” explained Lafferty.

It includes a green feature wall that takes cues from Mies van der Rohe’s iconic Barcelona Pavilion

The living room includes blue velvet sofas and a green feature wall clad in swirly book-matched marble, which was fitted with an alcove reserved for a subtle fireplace.

When creating the polished stone wall, the studio took cues from the seminal Barcelona Pavilion, completed in 1929 by modernist architect Mies van der Rohe.

A floor-to-ceiling headboard takes centre stage in the main bedroom

“We used green as an overall thread throughout the house, inspired by the surrounding landscape,” added Lafferty.

“Although depending on the time of year, the colours tend to change and so we were able to add in other rich colours that anchor the green such as burgundies and bright oranges,” she added.

    En-suite marble-clad bathroom
Stonework also defines the en-suite bathroom

“One would assume this mix of colours would clash, but we choose the tones and textures of each to ensure that all of them would blend harmoniously,” Lafferty said.

Upstairs, the main bedroom and en-suite bathroom were dressed in the same eclectic interiors as the communal spaces. A floor-to-ceiling headboard, finished in diamond-shaped green tiles originally designed by 20th-century architect Gio Ponti, frames the bed.

A playful bed was added to the bedroom created for the occupants’ child

Balloon-like coloured glass vases were positioned on two bedside tables, which were topped with the same slabs of Rosso Levanto marble as the geometric vanity desk.

The bedroom designed for the occupants’ child features an alternative bed – a playful green structure with two stacked levels and half-moon openings that reveal a cosy sleeping area on the bottom level.

Other accents featured throughout the home include burl wood, terrazzo, plaster and brass. The repetition of 1970s-style thick pile carpets emphasises the dwelling’s textured material palette.

Lovers Walk is the studio’s “closest nod” to the work of Panton, explained Lafferty – “down to the selection of every tile, light fitting and exquisite piece of designer furniture”.

“Although there is such an array of materiality, it is balanced by repeated colour, shape and form,” she said.

“Every space in this house is an assault on the senses, in the best way possible.”
