  • Simple Tips to Clean Up Dog Hair – Dogster

Simple Tips to Clean Up Dog Hair – Dogster

    [ad_1]

If you have a dog, you’ll have dog hair — everywhere! Dogs shed year-round with certain seasons being worse than others. Here are some simple cleanup tips to win the hair war around the home, in your car and, of course, on you.

Start by cleaning the hair on the dog

The best place to start controlling the dog hair situation is on the canine culprit.

“A dog’s fur varies in length, texture, thickness and hair-growth patterns,” explains certified master groomer Christina Pawlosky.

Aside from different hair types, dogs have different shedding patterns influenced by seasonal changes, daylight hours and temperature. Dogs that live in an air-conditioned environment can shed all year round.

So, even if your dog has a regular appointment with a groomer, having basic tools to help with shedding at home and using them weekly, even daily if necessary, can go a long way in controlling a hairy situation in your home and car.

Here are a few grooming tools to help control shedding:

Clean dog hair on the couch, carpet and floor

Because removing dog hair from the couch and carpeted areas of a home is an endless task, it’s worth investing in a lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner that is easy to grab and go, tackling crevices in the furniture and those fur bunnies that seems to gravitate under the couch. Using large sticky sheets also makes the task quick and easy.

Investing in throws that can be regularly grabbed and thrown in the washing machine keeps furniture fur-free and can be put away when you have company coming over. There are throws specifically made for dogs that are waterproof in case of accidents, like the PupProtector Waterproof Throw Blanket.

Have hardwood floors? Cute and fashionable throw rugs are a must to not only brighten up the room but are a hair magnet that is easy to throw in the wash.

Clean dog hair in the car

Similarly, investing in seat covers not only keeps the hair off the upholstery but also takes care of wet and muddy feet. Seat covers are available for both front and back seats as well as the cargo areas, and some include dog beds like PetSafe’s Happy Ride Car Dog Bed. Placing pooches in travel crates, such as the Sleepypod pet bed, keeps them safe, plus controls loose hair in a vehicle.

Cleaning dog hair from the washer and tumble dryer

Of course, all those throws, seat covers and your fur-covered clothes all find their way into the washing machine and the tumble dryer. Dryer sheets can certainly capture loose hair, while a nifty gadget such as the Furzapper can remove hair from both the washing machine and the dryer. Simply place these spongy rings in each machine and let them get to work attracting loose hair. A simple wash and they are ready to be used again. Be sure to service your laundry machines from time to time too, hair can get in places you can’t reach to clean out.

Keeping lint rollers, such as the ZeLo handheld roller, handy around the home and in your car lets you go fur-free and are ideal for those last-minute touch ups on upholstery and on clothes when, as much as you love your pooch, you don’t want dog hair to be a fashion accessory.

Last but not least, your washing machine is your friend. Wash throws and rugs weekly to keep the hair down and your house smelling fresh and not eua de dog.

  • AIA Estúdio designs cave-like interior for clothing store in Rio de Janeiro

AIA Estúdio designs cave-like interior for clothing store in Rio de Janeiro

    [ad_1]

Organic shapes and stone-like surfaces characterise the interior of the Haight clothing store in Rio de Janeiro, which was designed by interior and landscaping design practice AIA Estúdio.

A large pillar with a rough, textured surface dominates the 110-square-metre shop interior, expanding as it ascends before merging into the ceiling to create a cave-like space.

Haight clothing store by AIA Estúdio
    A pillar transforms into a cave-like structure

“Its height starts small and in the back part it ends higher in a nonlinear form, just like a cave,” AIA Estúdio founder Alice Tepedino told Dezeen.

“The infinite and diverse processes of erosion that form cliffs, caves, stalactites, sands, stones and the movements of water with its tracks and shapes led to our creative process being part of the concept developed for the store’s spatiality.”

Stone slabs around the pillar are used to display objects

Rather than being a cumbersome obstacle, the pillar helps organise the shop’s circulation and movement of shoppers, according to the studio.

“It is from the occupation around the pillar that the space fluidity is achieved. This disposition is enhanced by curved lines that define the path inside the store,” said Tepedino.

Curved stone plates balance on rocks

Slabs of soapstone and Bahia beige marble encircle the pillar at different heights and are propped up by Bahia beige marble rocks that create a display surface and a place for shoppers to sit.

On the perimeter walls, niches with stainless steel bases display Haight’s clothing on brushed-brass rails.

The metallic surfaces and straight edges of the niches contrast with the organic shapes and materials in the centre of the shop, which is located in the Shopping Leblon retail centre.

Tepedino used indirect lighting in the niches to illuminate the space, mimicking cracks in cave walls where sunlight can seep through.

“The exhibition interspace was thought of as a cut in the walls, an operation emphasised by the transition of materiality,” said Tepedino.

“Inside, there are exhibition racks in brushed brass, which, with their more solar aspect, contribute to subtly warming up the store’s ambience, together with the soapstone and its greyer tone.”

The bottoms of wall niches are lined with steel

Tepedino’s design is the first of Haight‘s stores to be located inside a shopping centre, which prompted the designer to approach the project in a different way.

The entrance to the shop is a large opening that provides open access from the shopping centre to the nature-inspired shop interior.

Exterior of the Haight clothing store
It is the first Haight store to be located in a mall

“The design adopted a contrasting strategy between the store and mall, which, despite the rigid and controlled environment, offers opportunities such as the possibility of not having a door,” said Tepedino.

The brand’s conceptual basis is related to natural landscapes but when you are inside the mall, you find a language that is the opposite of Haight’s conceptual basis, with artificial elements and cold materiality.”

Stone surfaces at the Haight clothing store
Natural materials and surfaces were used throughout the shop interior

“Once you’re inside the store you get disconnected from the artificial atmosphere of the rest of the building,” Tepedino continued.

The project has been shortlisted in the small retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022, alongside a surfaces showroom in Helsinki with colourful terrazzo-like walls and an oxblood red shop interior with walls decorated with Victorian-style balusters.

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene Warns Ron DeSantis Not to Run for President

Marjorie Taylor Greene Warns Ron DeSantis Not to Run for President

    [ad_1]

    • Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday urged Gov. Ron DeSantis not to run for president in 2024.
    • She said that running for the White House would equate to DeSantis abandoning his state.
    • “Please support President Trump,” she told DeSantis and any would-be presidential candidates.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday told Florida Governor Ron DeSantis not to compete with former President Donald Trump for the White House, as speculation abounds that the two GOP heavyweights could square off against each other for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Speaking at a Trump rally in Ohio, Greene urged DeSantis to remain governor of Florida and said running for president meant he would “abandon” his state. Trump was expected to announce a presidential run at Monday’s rally. Instead, he teased a “big announcement” that he’ll be making on November 15.

Discussing Trump’s potential campaign for the White House, Right Side Broadcasting Network host Brian Glenn told Greene at the rally: “If anyone steps into the political ring and tries to challenge President Trump as far as being the Republican nominee for 2024, we feel like it’s political suicide. This is his party, this is his race to run.”

“Absolutely, I think that it’s clear and obvious,” Greene responded.

“What we need in this country, Brian, is we need strong Republican governors like Ron DeSantis,” she later said.

“We need strong Republican governors to fight, stay in for eight years and save their states, not to abandon their states and try to run for president or any other big position,” Greene added.

“My message is for everyone, anyone that’s considering running for president in 2024 against President Trump, please support President Trump,” she said.

DeSantis has in recent months been considered to be a strong frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, though he also hasn’t announce a campaign. Greene’s rhetoric that DeSantis would “abandon” his state by running for president has also been used by his gubernatorial opponent, Democratic nominee Charlie Crist.

When Crist asked DeSantis at a political debate if he would serve a full term if elected governor, DeSantis did not answer the question.

Representatives for Greene and DeSantis did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Dogster

    Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Dogster

    [ad_1]

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier can claim a colorful and checkered past, but through it all, his courage has never been questioned. He offers maximum muscle in a medium-sized package. Here are six interesting facts about this devoted breed.

    Staffordshire
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier originated in the northern regions of Birmingham, England, and in the Black Country of Staffordshire. @Mike Linnane/500px

History of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The breed originated in the northern regions of Birmingham, England, and in the Black Country of Staffordshire, where he got his name. Dog historians agree that the breed descends from Mastiff-like dogs through the old-fashioned Bulldog which, when crossed with various British terriers, produced the first “Bull and Terriers” in the early 1800s. Those old Bulldogs were taller and longer-legged than the dogs we think of today. They were ferocious creatures used in the “sports” of bear- and bull-baiting as early as the mid-16th century. When these gruesome activities were eventually outlawed, their supporters turned to dog fighting, which was easier to promote in secret. The goal was to produce a sporting dog that retained the courage and ferocity of the Bulldog while adding the grit and agility of the terrier. It is believed that the Manchester Terrier and the now-extinct English White Terrier went into the mix.

Different groups of English enthusiasts favored different looks, but, in time, two distinct types of Bull and Terrier emerged, and were easily recognized by 1900. James Hinks produced a classic white dog by further adding the Pointer and Dalmatian. What we know today as the Bull Terrier (think Spuds Mackenzie) was recognized by the Kennel Club (United Kingdom) and the American Kennel Club at the turn of the century. The “other” Bull and Terrier, a working-class dog owned by the common folk, had a more difficult time finding legitimacy. Admirers of the Staffordshire met in England in 1935 to form a club and create a breed standard, a canine blueprint to help produce a more uniform dog.

When the Staffordshire Bull Terrier came to the US

Shortly before the American Civil War, immigrants from Great Britain brought their Bull-and-Terrier crossbreeds into the United States. They became the ancestral progenitors of the American Staffordshire Terrier, Miniature Bull Terrier, Boston Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier. With dogs no longer needing to be bred for blood sport, and the interest growing in dog shows, responsible breeders set out to produce dogs of more stable, trustworthy temperament, affectionate with family, and children in particular. Considered a well-kept secret in the dog world, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was not recognized by the American Kennel Club until 1975. The first Staffordshire to be registered with the AKC was an English import, Champion Tinkinswood Imperial. The first U.S. champion was a female from Australia, Northwark Becky Sharpe.

How the Staffordshire Bull Terrier got his name

It’s not surprising, given his eclectic history, that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has been known by a variety of names. Originally, he was the Bull and Terrier and the Brindle Bull. Today, many people shorten Staffordshire Bull Terrier to Stafford or Staffy. You will also see the abbreviation SBT. In addition, to honor his affinity for children, the breed is affectionately known around the world as the “nanny dog.”

    Socialize your Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The American Kennel Club breed standard sums up the breed’s character so well. Under “Temperament,” we are told, “From the past history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the modern dog draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence and tenacity. This, coupled with its affection for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, makes it a foremost all-purpose dog.” To bring out these qualities in a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy, socialization must begin early and continue throughout his life, exposing him to new experiences and teaching him, gently but firmly, what is acceptable behavior. The Stafford, despite his medium size, is incredibly strong, muscular and active. As there are communities around the country that include the SBT in their “Breed-Specific Legislation,” you want your dog to be welcomed as a good canine citizen.

Coat and grooming of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Staffords come in a wide variety of colors. Red, fawn, white, black or steel blue are all seen, either as solid colors or with white trim. Any shade of brindle (dark stripes on a lighter background), or brindle with white, is equally acceptable. Black-and-tan or liver are the only disqualifications in the standard.

Whatever color pattern you prefer, grooming is a simple task. The Stafford coat is smooth, short and close to the skin. Shedding is moderate, and regular brushing will cut down on it.

    Celebrity Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s strong, muscular good looks in a compact package have made him a favorite of many, including some high-profile performers. Celebrities sharing their homes, private jets and touring buses with Staffords include Kaley Cuoco, Rachael Ray, Jessica Alba, Linda Blair, Danny Trejo, Kevin Bacon, Liam Hemsworth, Adrian Grenier and Miranda Lambert.

Despite his medium size, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is very strong, muscular and active. @Rob Giannese

Very. The coat is smooth, short and close to the skin. Low shedding, and regular brushing will remove dead hair before it lands on floors, carpets, furniture and clothes. Toenails can get hard and tough, so start nail cutting early. Ears, teeth and anal glands will require regular attention.

    1. How popular is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

No. 75 in the American Kennel Club list of most popular breeds in 2021, based on annual registrations. (There are 200 recognized breeds in all.)

  • Twitter Must Be ‘Most Accurate Source of Information’ on Earth

Twitter Must Be ‘Most Accurate Source of Information’ on Earth

    [ad_1]

    • Twitter owner Elon Musk said the social platform needs to become “the most accurate source of information.”
    • Critics pointed out that Musk shared an inaccurate story about the attack on Paul Pelosi last week.
    • Twitter founder Jack Dorsey also weighed in on the conversation.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday tweeted that his goal was to make Twitter “the most accurate” media platform, but critics say the billionaire has made decisions on the platform that suggest otherwise.

“Twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That’s our mission.” Musk tweeted Sunday evening. He also shared a similar sentiment in a November 2 tweet, in which he said Twitter would become the most accurate news source “without regard to political affiliation.”

Critics were quick to point out that days earlier Musk had linked to inaccurate news following the October 28 attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, in which an intruder broke into her San Francisco home and struck Paul Pelosi with a hammer. Pelosi was released from the hospital Thursday after being admitted with a skull fracture following the attack.

On October 30, in response to a Hillary Clinton tweet denouncing the attack, Musk shared a link to a website that promoted conspiracy theories about the attack, including one that falsely claimed the attacker was a male prostitute hired by Pelosi.

“There is a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye,” Musk replied, linking to a site with the headline, “The Awful Truth: Paul Pelosi Was Drunk Again, And In a Dispute With a Male Prostitute Early Friday Morning.”

    Musk later deleted the tweet.

MSNBC journalist and political commentator Mehdi Hasan was one of dozens of accounts on Sunday evening that pointed to Musk’s distribution of the unsubstantiated article.

“Literally a week ago today, Musk posted a link to a fake news website (that once suggested Hillary Clinton was dead and had been replaced by a body double),” Hasan wrote on Twitter. “Worse, he then deleted that tweet without explanation or apology. But sure, his ‘mission’ is accurate information.”

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey also replied to Musk’s tweet, asking “accurate to who?”

Musk replied to Dorsey, saying that he would base accuracy on “the people of Twitter via Community Notes,” which is a feature that allows Twitter to add context to posts they consider misleading.

Musk did not provide detailed information on how he plans to improve accuracy on the site.

Dorsey also tweeted that making the site “more informative,” rather than the “most accurate” would be a better goal for the platform.

The notes feature, originally called Birdwatch, has been used on a Musk tweet before. On Friday, users added context to a tweet Musk had shared about “activist groups pressuring advertisers” to pause their ads on Twitter.

Over the past week, Musk has shared many wide-ranging plans for the platform, including the monetization of creator-made content, a new verification subscription model, and new rules regarding accounts that impersonate other users.

Representatives for Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Furry upholstery, lace curtains and tactile rugs all feature in Flat #6, a São Paulo apartment designed by Studio MK27.

The local architecture and design studio reworked the four-bedroom flat to provide a cosy but practical home for a couple and their three teenage sons.

Its interior design draws on a love of Brazilian design, both vintage and contemporary, which is shared by both the owners and Studio MK27 founder and architect Marcio Kogan.

Designs by the likes of Lina Bo Bardi, Jorge Zalszupin and Giuseppe Scapinelli feature alongside ipe wood wall panelling and basalt stone flooring.

“The decoration adds a layer of tactility to each corner of the apartment,” said Studio MK27.

“A mixture of contemporary and vintage pieces already owned by the couple blends harmonically with the sober finishings and adds a touch of colour.”

Flat #6 is shortlisted in the apartment interior category at the 2022 Dezeen Awards.

Studio MK27 was commissioned for the project after having already designed another apartment in the same building, Flat #12.

The two homes have the same layout, with all of the main family living spaces occupying a single L-shaped space that wraps the apartment on two sides.

These living spaces create a buffer zone between the private bedrooms and bathrooms, and a glazed veranda-like space at the front.

However, the design of the two homes is very different. While Flat #12 has a more pared-back feel, Flat #6 features a greater variety of colours and textures.

Curtain in Flat#6 by Studio MK27
Lace curtains create a textural backdrop to the living space

A key starting point was the lace curtain that spans all the windows in the open-plan family room. Designed by one of the clients, it creates a natural play of light and shadow.

The curtain provides a striking backdrop to the characterful furnishings, which also include designs by Piero Lissoni and Paola Navone alongside some of Studio MK27’s own pieces.

“The perforated artisanal fabric acts like a soft mashrabiya, filtering the sunlight and creating shadow drawings throughout the apartment,” the design team explained, comparing the curtain to the latticework screens found in traditional Islamic architecture.

“Natural light warms up every piece and every corner, letting the woods, the velvets and the stones speak louder.”

A library wall provides a space for displaying books and objects, with a free-standing staircase providing access to the higher shelves.

Other details include a dedicated backgammon table, a study desk and a lounge chair positioned alongside a lamp and magazine rack to create space for quiet reading.

A slatted wood wall separates the main living space from the rest of the home

Doors to the adjacent bedrooms, the TV room and the main bathroom are integrated into a wall of slatted wood, allowing them to be almost invisible when the family hosts guests.

The same material palette features in bedrooms and bathrooms, where highlights include a custom bed surround in the primary bedroom and a bathroom with a dark stone basin.

“Designed with extreme attention to detail, the combination of textures and sharp forms create wide and soulful spaces that embrace a joyful living,” added the design team.

Studio MK27 is also shortlisted in the leisure and wellness interior category at this year’s Dezeen Awards with its spa at the Patina Maldives resort.

Other recent projects from the practice include Caza Azul, a rainforest home raised up on pilotis.
