Interviews, Art Direction and Photography by Asad Sheikh.

    Anusha Parashar
Degree: Bachelor of Design (Knitwear Design)
    Home town: Guwahati

How would you introduce your graduate collection?
Plastic Fantastic is a feel-good concept that captures the essence of youth. It’s playful — the idea is to have fun with what one wears — and it isn’t an embodiment of what the male gaze wants.

It is a wearable-art collection and involves elements inspired by the Barbie and bimbocore cultures as a feminist message that reclaims these tropes as empowering rather than derogatory and shallow, as seen in popular culture. Colour is used in unapologetic and unexpected ways — pink, purple and other sunset hues all have a home here — and the silhouettes range from fluid, feminine forms to younger, playful shapes with DIY elements. The range uses asymmetrical details and cut-outs, layering, experimental materials, fur, beads and hand-knitting.

    It’s self-indulgent, it’s unapologetic and it’s pretty!

Tell us about your favourite look from the collection.
My favourite look from the collection is a single-sleeve ombré gown with exaggerated sleeve and bottom-hem details and a crochet bikini made of hearts. The colours are bright and playful while the silhouettes are fluid and sultry. This was one of the more wearable looks, and the idea was to strike a balance between art and wearability. My design process includes creating a mood, doodling, combining words with visuals and research.

Which format would best translate your work to the consumer — physical retail spaces, online stores, demi-couture, or purely as a form of visual consumption through images only?
Online consumption and demi-couture would suit it best, as it is intended to be a wearable-art collection.

Where do you think fashion is going with AI and the metaverse?
Fashion is becoming extremely personalised. It is bringing in customisation and more accessibility while reducing environmental impact.

Do you feel digital design is the answer to fashion’s waste problem?
Maybe it is not the solution, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. Digital design will almost negate the waste created in the development and experimentation stages, as well as production waste.

  • Why is My Dog Throwing Up Black or Dark Red Vomit? – Dogster

Why is My Dog Throwing Up Black or Dark Red Vomit? – Dogster

    [ad_1]

If your dog’s vomit is black or dark red, there could be a problem in need of immediate medical attention. Black is the most concerning color your dog can vomit. When there is bleeding inside your dog’s digestive tract, it appears as black or brown in color, with a coffee ground texture. This is cause for concern and warrants a call to your veterinarian right away. The most common cause of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract is ulceration of the stomach or intestine. Your dog could also have cancer along the gastrointestinal tract or have had recent trauma.

Other symptoms in dogs of a gastrointestinal ulcer may include:

    • Anemia. This is due to blood loss and may cause your dog to be tired and have pale colored gums.
    • Low or no appetite. Ulcers are painful and often make dogs feel nauseated. If left untreated, many dogs will have a decreased appetite along with weight loss.
    • Drooling. Nausea caused by the ulcer will often cause a dog to drool.
    • Fever. Some dogs may experience a fever. However, having a fever doesn’t necessarily mean your dog has an ulcer.

What causes stomach ulcers in dogs?

Stomach ulcers can be caused by many factors, however, here are the most common causes:

    • NSAIDs. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like carprofen, meloxicam, piroxicam and deracoxib are great pain and inflammation reducers. Rarely, these medications can cause ulcers of the stomach and intestines. This occurs because these drugs decrease prostaglandins of the digestive tract that help protect the gut lining. This risk is increased when NSAIDS are prescribed with steroids like prednisone and dexamethasone.
    • Steroids. Less commonly, steroids like prednisone and dexamethasone can also cause ulcers in a similar way compared with NSAIDs. It’s important that these two classifications of drugs not be administered together.
    • Human NSAIDs. Drugs such as Advil (ibuprofen) and Aleve (naproxen) are very toxic to dogs and can cause ulcers along with kidney failure. These should not be given to dogs under any circumstances. If your dog consumes your pain-relieving medication, see a veterinarian right away.
    • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Dogs with IBD often have chronic vomiting or diarrhea due to the inflammation in the lining of their digestive tract. This can progress to bleeding ulcers of the stomach or intestines.
    • Cancer. Certain types of tumors, such as mast cell tumors (MCT) and certain tumors of the pancreas, can cause ulcers in the digestive tract.
    • Elite Athletes. Dogs that participate in high-intensity performance sports like sled dogs have a much higher risk of developing ulcers in their stomach or intestines.

How to prevent stomach ulcers in dogs

If the thought of your dog having a bleeding stomach ulcer scares you, you may be wondering how you might prevent these medical nightmares from happening. Here are a few tips:

    • Talk to your veterinarian about the side effects of any drug you give your dog. Ask if ulcers are a possible side effect.
    • If your dog is taking steroids or NSAIDs and begins to vomit, call your veterinarian immediately. It’s important to stop administering NSAIDs immediately. You should speak with your veterinarian before stopping steroids as the safest option may be to slowly discontinue them.
    • Lock up medications. Dogs are notorious for consuming entire bottles of their own medication or even their human’s medication. Save your dog the risk and keep them out of reach.

How to treat stomach ulcers in dogs

The good news is that ulcers of the digestive system are very often treatable. Treatment is usually given for several weeks to a month. Here is a typical treatment plan for a dog with stomach or intestinal ulcers:

    • Discontinue some drugs. If your pup’s ulcer was caused by steroids or NSAIDs, these drugs will be discontinued. These drugs will likely not be recommended again for the life of your dog. Be sure to tell future veterinarians about these ulcers even after they have healed.
    • Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). This drug helps reduce acid in your dog’s stomach and can help heal ulcers.
    • H2 Blockers. These also reduce stomach acid but work more immediately and in different ways compared to PPIs.
    • Sucralfate. This drug comes in pill form and is made into a liquid slurry and then given to your dog by mouth. It acts as a bandage for the ulcer while enhancing the healing process. It is given 1 hour before a meal or 2 hours after a meal. While this drug might be messy and inconvenient, it’s a very important part of healing ulcers.
    • Antibiotics. If your veterinarian suspects that there is a bacterial cause or component to your dog’s ulcers, they may add 1 to 2 antibiotics to aid in healing.

While it may feel like these are a lot of medications to administer, using all the prescribed medications for the entire duration of your dog’s treatment plan is important to heal the ulcer completely. If you are struggling to get your dog to take medications, reach out to your veterinarian for support. There may be simple adjustments that can be made to help ease the medication administration process.

Why is my dog throwing up red vomit?

If you see red in your dog’s vomit, it’s important to notice the amount of red material. If the vomit is laced with small amounts of bright red looking liquid, this is most likely due to small blood vessels breaking in the esophagus or back of the throat. This is because vomiting can be traumatic to the tissues and can cause ruptures in these small blood vessels. Seeing this once or twice is nothing to be worried about.

Regular vomiting with red blood or vomiting large amounts of blood is alarming. When in doubt, snap a picture and text or email your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can help to determine if medical care is needed.

When to call your veterinarian when your dog is throwing up

It may be difficult to know when you should call or see your veterinarian. Here is a list of red flags:

    • Black coffee grounds appearance of vomit
    • Regular bright red blood in vomit
    • Large amounts of blood in vomit
    • Uncontrolled vomiting
    • Vomiting accompanied by diarrhea
    • Dullness and lethargy

If you see your dog vomit a strange color including black or red, consider what they might have consumed before you panic. Here is a list of things besides blood that could create these colors:

    • Some fruits. Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries.
    • This warrants a trip to the veterinarian for other reasons!
    • Chocolate cake. Like coffee, if your dog eats chocolate cake give your veterinarian a call.
    • Food coloring.
    • Crayons, markers and pens. While crayons are usually digestible, the casing of pens and markers can be problematic. Consult with your veterinarian about the best plan to monitor your dog for the next 2 to 3 days should this happen.

Whether your pup’s black or dark red vomit is an emergency or not, it can be stressful and scary! It may feel hard to stay calm and think clearly. Be sure that you have established a relationship with a veterinarian while your dog is well, so as to better facilitate a plan if and when your dog becomes emergently sick. If you are ever in doubt as to whether your dog’s vomiting is benign or something more serious, I always support reaching out to your dedicated veterinary support team! Take pictures of the vomit, keep a log of how often, and for how long, it’s been happening. If you’re still concerned or confused, asking more questions is always right. After all, you are your dog’s best and most important advocate!

  • Jared Kushner Defends Trump’s Actions Over Mar-a-Lago Documents

Jared Kushner Defends Trump’s Actions Over Mar-a-Lago Documents

    [ad_1]

    • Jared Kushner said Trump governed in a “peculiar” way while weighing in on the Mar-a-Lago raid.
    • He said his father-in-law probably did what he thought was “appropriate” with classified documents.
    • Kushner also dodged a question on whether he would want to work for Trump again.

Jared Kushner this week weighed in on the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid and defended his father-in-law’s handling of classified information.

Kushner, who served as an adviser to former President Donald Trump, was asked on Fox News on Wednesday if he thought Trump had made a mistake by bringing sensitive documents from the White House to his Florida residence.

While executing a search warrant on the property earlier this month, the FBI removed 11 sets of classified documents — some of which were marked top secret and concerned nuclear weapons. According to the warrant, the Justice Department is looking into whether Trump broke three federal laws, including the Espionage Act.

“Like I said, I’m not familiar with what was in the boxes,” Kushner told Fox News host Bill Hemmer.

“But I think President Trump, he, uh, he governed in a very peculiar way and when he had his documents, I’m assuming he did what he thought was appropriate,” he added.

During the same interview, Kushner was also asked if he would work for Trump again if the latter were to run for president in 2024. Kushner did not give a firm answer to the question and only said that working for Trump had been “an honor.”

“I’m very proud of the things I got done. It is a big toll, working in Washington,” Kushner said.

When pressed if his answer was a “maybe,” Kushner responded that he was “enjoying my life in the private sector and loving the time with my kids.”

For his part, Kushner has denied being an FBI informant who may have been working with the agency on the Mar-a-Lago raid — a theory that commentators like Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, and Michael Cohen, Trump’s former attorney, have pushed.

Kusher has also called the raid a mistake made by Trump’s enemies that resulted from people trying to “overpursue” his father-in-law.

Representatives for Kushner did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.

IPX4: The Importance of Water Resistant Products

    By Claire Barnett

Jump into the water with the coolest IPX4 water resistant products of the season. With the warm months in our midst, we want to stay cool, and sometimes that means hitting the pool or the beach. The packing list includes a towel, some snacks, and, of course, we can’t forget the music. What’s a pool or beach day without our favorite jams? Whether you choose to listen out loud with a portable speaker or tune out the noise and enjoy your music in your own world with headphones or earbuds, music at the beach/pool is a must. However, you can’t risk getting your tech products wet and dying on you. Accidents happen, especially when you’re having fun. Avoid this situation by getting a water-resistant IPX4 product this summer season to enjoy risk-free music all summer long.

What is IPX4? An IP rating determines how resistant something is to environmental elements, and IPX4 means your product is protected from splashing water, no matter the direction. Also, IPX4 devices are considered not only splash-proof but also sweatproof, which means they will survive contact with human sweat and still be able to work properly. To learn more read our IPX4 blog.

Our tech products, especially our headphones and earbuds, are constantly exposed to a number of undesirable environmental elements, such as moisture and debris. Summer is a time of sweat, sand, and salt, among other things. From the humidity and the saltwater, to the perspiration and the chlorine, it’s important that we have products that are able to resist such environmental factors for a maximized listening experience.

You can’t go wrong when purchasing a pair of IPX4-rated earbuds or headphones. With products such as TWIG, TWIG PRO, and BonoBuds, Phiaton is setting the bar for sweat- and water-resistant protection without sacrificing sound or aesthetics.

In a sleek aluminum grey color, TWIG earbuds have a smooth aluminium body with a wireless charging case, and EQ Application. For ultimate comfort, the earbuds come with silicone tips designed for all ear sizes to mold perfectly to your ear. These wireless earbuds blend modern design, quality materials, and a premium sound that is powered by 12mm double layer drivers for distortion-free sound reproduction. TWIG earbuds offer convenient wireless charging, with only 10 minutes of charge gives one hour of playback time. Listeners receive a well-balanced sound quality thanks to the finely tuned drivers and dual microphones, which produce crystal clear sounds. The IPX4 sweat-and-water-resistant design keeps your earbuds protected during workouts and light rain, making for the perfect summer earbuds.

The TWIG PRO earbuds share many of the same features as the regular TWIG earbuds in that they also provide a sleek aluminum grey color as well as aluminum body, wireless charging case, IPX4 design, and EQ Application. But the PRO’s also feature hybrid active noise cancellation and an ergonomic half in-ear design. The half in-ear design ensures comfort and stability, while the silicone ear tips enhance sound insulation and provide a snug fit without causing discomfort for all ear sizes. The PRO’s also provide convenient wireless charging, with 6 hour playback time with only 10 quick minutes of charging. Four microphones for digital hybrid ANC technology block up to 98% ambient noise, while dual cVc mics can be used for crystal clear calls, zooms, and more. The elegant design provides a pair of earbuds both rich in aesthetics and durability. The IPX4 design ensures you can enjoy your music all summer long despite the possibility of a few splashes.

Last but not least, Phiaton’s BonoBuds are “true sounding earbuds built for entertainment, work, travel and everything in between.” With the option of colors of midnight blue, floral white, or space black, listeners are sure to enjoy the aesthetically pleasing design of these earbuds as well as premium sound, as a result of their custom-made 12mm dynamic drivers that deliver a distortion-free true sound experience. BonoBuds provide a quick charge and 20 hours of battery life for all day use. They have 4 microphones for a crystal clear sound experience as well as intuitive touch controls for ease of use. • Why Do Dogs Chase Their Tails? – Dogster

Why Do Dogs Chase Their Tails? – Dogster

    [ad_1]

If your dog suddenly starts spinning around, chasing and even biting his own tail, you likely wonder why. There are several possible reasons why your dog is chasing or biting his tail, some behavioral and others medical.

According to California-based dog trainer Ash Miner, a certified trick dog instructor (CTDI) working on a master’s degree in animal behavior, it could simply be a game.

Ash says this is a game dogs usually invent out of boredom. She says because they have poor hind-end awareness, many dogs don’t even realize that they have a tail until they happen upon it visually.

Why is my dog biting his tail?

From a human’s standpoint, it may seem odd to see a dog chasing, then biting, his own tail. But dogs can get caught up in the moment — even if it hurts.

Ash says when dogs bite their tail while playing — or for other reasons — it can most definitely hurt. However, when they’re that excited, the pain may not register fully until later on.

But playing when bored is just one possible reason your dog is chasing and biting his tail.

A dog’s age could also have something to do with it. Puppies may be more apt to bite and chase their tails because they’re unaware that it is actually attached to them. It becomes a game for them. But Ash says it could develop into something else, so it’s not a healthy game to encourage. She says she always tells her clients to interrupt the game and redirect the activity to an appropriate toy instead.

Other reasons for tail-chasing and tail-biting may include:

Should I worry if my dog is biting his tail?

Ash says what starts out as a game can become a neurological disorder like obsessive-compulsive disorder, aka canine compulsive disorder. She says this disorder is common with dogs in shelter-kennel situations because they have virtually no individualized stimulation, but are very excited by the environment around them.

The targets of the OCD behavior can include laser pointers, reflected light, shadows, balls and their own tails, among other things.

She draws a distinction between a dog with canine compulsive disorder vs. a very high-drive dog. The deciding factor is whether or not the dog can give up on the target item. If the dog is unable to stop himself, even with some training, it is no longer a healthy drive. Whether or not the disorder can be resolved depends on a few things:

    • If the pet parent is consistent with a management plan and ongoing training to keep the dog from practicing the behavior
    • If the dog can receive adequate, alternative forms of exercise and stimulation he enjoys just as much, but in an appropriate way
    • If the dog’s environment can be modified so the dog can’t practice his compulsive behavior.

If the dog has developed OCD and won’t stop chasing or biting his tail, Ash works on a default leave-it cue with his own tail.

Is it OK for my dog to chase his tail?

The simple answer as to why dogs chase or bite their tails is relieving some boredom. But if left unchecked, the behavior may develop into something more serious. It can also potentially be a sign of a medical condition.

Ash says some warning signs to look out for include:

    • Your dog starts chasing or biting his tail suddenly and for no obvious reason like boredom
    • He doesn’t stop after a few seconds
    • He only chases in one direction
    • He bites so hard that his tail bleeds.

However, tail-chasing or tail-biting are fairly normal when it’s brief, easily interrupted and redirected and the bites are soft. If you are concerned with your dog’s behavior, consult a certified dog trainer, animal behaviorist and/or veterinarian.

  • 3 Ways to Infuse Your Days With Magic and Meaning

3 Ways to Infuse Your Days With Magic and Meaning

    [ad_1]

Feel like you’re just going through the motions lately? Wish your days had a little more wonder … a little more magic and meaning in them? Hey, it’s been a CRAZY few years — I think we all feel that way. And, to help, we have a guest post from Minneapolis-based artist Liv Lane to help us all find a little wonder in the every day.

    By Liv Lane

The return to work and workout routines still leaves something missing in the equation. Awe is essential to overall wellness, and after a couple years of testing our patience and endurance, it’s a great time to work the muscles responsible for appreciating the magic and meaning in our lives. A recent study by Lifeway Research shows 57 percent of Americans wonder at least once a month how they can find more meaning and purpose in their lives; a full fifth say they grapple with this question every single day.

The good news is there are ways to instantly start experiencing more joy, connection and purpose – and they’re easier than you might expect! Of course, if you’re experiencing frequent anxiety or depression, professional support is critical. The three tactics below can do wonders for one’s outlook, but they can’t replace professional assessments and tools.

    Ready to get started?

    1. Start choosing beauty.

After a traumatic birth with my firstborn son 19 years ago, I was blindsided by postnatal PTSD and postpartum depression. Instead of being excited about motherhood, I felt joyless, terrified, and alone. It took lots of therapy and medicine, and a daily practice I call “choosing beauty,” to feel like me again.

One of the unsettling things for me during that time was that I could no longer easily access the angels that I’d heard and seen my whole life. Self-doubt and despair blocked my connection to the Other Side. Then, one day after a therapy session, as things were beginning to feel brighter and better for me, I was sitting at a traffic light and a huge rainbow appeared right over the intersection. I adore rainbows, and it felt like such a sweet sign that I was going to be okay.

That evening, I excitedly told my husband about the rainbow and how magical it felt. I’ll never forget what happened next. Standing in our family room, I suddenly heard the angels’ voices again – just long enough to hear them instruct me to start taking a photo of something beautiful every day for a year and write about it. That’s all I got – but I knew I had to follow that guidance!

I started a blog in 2006 to keep me accountable and carried a camera with me everywhere. I began noticing so much beauty that I’d totally missed before – from a ladybug keeping me company at the gas pump to my son’s toy cars lined up neatly to welcome me home from a business trip. Choosing to find and describe the beauty I found in each day – even on days when I didn’t feel like it – opened my eyes and truly healed my heart. And all these years later, I still lean into that practice frequently.

    2. Activate your intuition.

We all have intuition that shows up uniquely for each of us – from suddenly getting a strong feeling about a situation to thinking of an old acquaintance who suddenly calls out of the blue. It is an incredibly powerful tool — an inner compass that can help guide our choices and enhance our faith – when we know how to use it and trust it.

In my new collection of WingTips angelic art & guidance, there’s a set devoted to Finding Magic & Meaning. I transcribed the angels’ guidance for each art print, including one on intuition. For that piece, the angels said, “Your intuition is like a flower. It flourishes when you pay attention to it and ensure it gets enough light.”

I love the reminder that our intuition isn’t just an automatic superpower we can take for granted, but something we must lovingly tend to. For instance, if spotting an interesting object or natural wonder immediately feels like a sign from above – like that rainbow I saw after my therapy session – we get to trust that first inkling and not second-guess ourselves. If we feel inexplicably inspired to reach out to someone or take a different route home, we get to follow those nudges and trust there’s a reason for it.

On the back of the intuition art print, the angels further describe how to enhance this inner wisdom, including this: “Your ‘gut’ is the meeting place of grace, guidance and innate knowing. To access its wisdom, you must climb out of the shadows of your fears, opinions and assumptions, and trust the flashes of information that seem to come out of the blue and instantly feel true.”

The more you do this, the easier it becomes to trust this superpower and let it enrich your life.

    3. Tell people about it.

That’s right. As you start choosing beauty each day and trusting your intuition more, tell people about it! We need to normalize talking freely about magic and meaning because it’s totally normal!

According to Pew Research, most Americans mix traditional faith with beliefs in things like psychics, reincarnation and a spiritual energy found in nature (from trees to crystals). In fact, 72 percent of Americans believe in angels – and yet I spent years hiding my relationship with them, worried people would think I was nuts.

The braver I got about sharing the magic and meaning in my life, from blogging about choosing beauty to sharing spiritual experiences with colleagues, I was shocked how many people were hungry to talk about it all. So many people are also hiding their own experiences, gifts and practices; they just needed to know they were not alone in order to start opening up.

Your life holds so much magic and meaning, just waiting to be uncovered. I hope you’ll start inviting it in by choosing beauty, honoring your intuition and shouting it from the rooftops. –Liv Lane

Russian Tourists Drive Across the Border to Finland Amid EU Flight Ban

    [ad_1]

    • Finland’s Helsinki-Vantaa international airport has become a key transit hub for Russian tourists.
    • Many of them drive into Finland amid an EU ban on Russian flights into its airspace.
    • Russian tourists holding valid EU Schengen visas can travel freely within the zone.

The European Union has banned Russian flights from its airspace over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, but Russian travelers are still touring countries in the bloc.

Russian holidaymakers have been able to travel to various EU destinations by taking circuitous routes to their destinations — or, if their locations allow, by simply driving across the country’s northwestern border to Finland and making their way to the Helsinki-Vantaa international airport.

Since the EU flight ban, Finland has become a key transit hub for Russian tourists, so much so that their luxury cars — Porsches and Bentleys, among others — are packing the garage at the Helsinki airport, AFP reported on Tuesday.

“Helsinki airport is seeing a lot of Russian tourism at the moment,” Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto told AFP.

That’s been the case since Russia eased Covid travel restrictions on July 15, sending border crossings up 80% in just one month from June, per AFP. The situation has angered many Finns, who find it difficult to accept Russians holidaying in Finland while the Kremlin is still at war with Ukraine.

An attraction popular with Russian tourists in Finland has even gone as far as to play the Ukrainian national anthem to protest war, the AFP reported.

Finland is planning to limit Russian tourist visas from September 1, according to the country’s foreign ministry in a statement last week. However, Russians can still enter Finland with visas issued by other EU countries in the borderless Schengen region. As it stands, two-thirds of Russians cross into Finland via its eastern border with visas issued by other EU countries, the Finnish border guard told AFP.

“They come here on Schengen visas issued by various different countries and then continue further via Helsinki airport,” Haavisto told the outlet. Under Schengen rules, Finland cannot unilaterally deny entry to those holding valid visas.

EU foreign ministers are set to discuss a region-wide visa ban for Russian nationals next week but not all member states think it’s a good idea as there may be those who want to flee President Vladimir Putin’s regime.

“This is not the war of the Russian people, but it is Putin’s war,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said last week at a press conference.
