Trump ‘Electrified’ Fans With Call for ‘Big Protest’ on Jan. 6

    [ad_1]

Rep. Jamie Raskin said President Donald Trump “electrified and galvanized” his extremist supporters with a tweet calling for a “big protest” on January 6, 2021.

The Maryland Democrat, during the House’s January 6 committee hearing on Tuesday, was referencing a tweet Trump sent out on December 19, which said: “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!”

Trump’s call to action spurred on “the dangerous extremists in the Oathkeepers, the Proud Boys and other racist and white nationalist groups spoiling for a fight against the government,” Raskin said.

Tuesday’s hearing is focused on events from December 14, 2020 to the morning of January 6, 2021.

Raskin said “three rings of interwoven attack” were operating toward January 6 to overturn the 2020 presidential election in favor of Trump.

Trump continued trying to get his vice president, Mike Pence, to “assert unilateral power to reject electoral votes,” Raskin said. Meanwhile, members of domestic violent extremist groups created an alliance to “storm, invade and occupy the Capitol.” The outer ring, Raskin said, was the “large and angry crowd” that assembled on January 6.

“Here were thousands of enraged Trump followers, thoroughly convinced by the Big Lie who traveled from across the country to join Trump’s wild rally to ‘stop the steal,’” he said. “With the proper incitement by political leaders, and the proper instigation from the extremists, many members of this crowd could be led to storm the Capitol, confront the vice president in Congress and try to overturn the 2020 election results.”

The correct scientific terminology for UV filters is organic (chemical, such as avobenzone, octocrylene or oxybenzone) or inorganic (physical, such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide).
Both types work by absorbing the rays and turning them into heat, but with inorganic aka physical sunscreens, between 5% and 10% of incoming rays are reflected and scattered.

With organic filters (‘chemical’ in the traditional, non-scientific sense), the UV rays are mostly absorbed and turned into heat in the skin.

Always apply last after moisturiser, before makeup – unless otherwise stated.
Reapply every two hours if in active sun (on holiday, sunbathing, generally being outside all day).
Reapply after swimming or excessive sweating/drying off with a towel.

    Text by: Vanya Lochan

“Hi! I’m here to share something that makes Sharmaji Namkeen a very special film. Yeh film mere liye khaas sirf isliye nahin hai kyunki ye Papa ki last film hai [the film is special to me not only because it is Papa’s last film], but Papa really believed in the story.”

The camera zooms in on Ranbir Kapoor in a moodily lit living room set as he opens his father’s posthumous last film, Sharmaji Namkeen, while seated casually on a sofa with one leg folded under the other, speaking to the audience as if they were guests in his home. He’s here to tell us that in a very rare moment, Paresh Rawal has stepped in to play the same role as Rishi Kapoor. The informal address that follows corresponds with the simulated familiarity between us and the “real-life” versions of movie stars, including the Kapoors, that has become an intrinsic part of the evolving fan-celebrity dynamic, especially since the rise of paparazzi culture and social media in the last decade or so. More recently, in the weeks leading up to Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s wedding, we have seen several such clips go viral: Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni indulgently answering questions about the wedding venue; or the groom scooping up Bhatt into his arms just a few hours after their nuptials, in front of the photographers who were lined up outside.

“Kehte hain na [they say], the show must go on,” he continues with a wistful smile as he jogs our collective memory, harking back to his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s 1970 film Mera Naam Joker, which had solidified the phrase (even rendering it banal) in the Hindi-speaking audience’s consciousness. “So, presenting ek aakhri baar, [for the last time] Rishi Kapoor urf aap sabke pyaare [aka your beloved] Chintuji in and as Sharmaji Namkeen. Please enjoy the film.”

The Kapoors have had a long tryst with both the Indian media and cinemagoers’ voyeuristic gaze, yet this type of primer colours one curious about Sharmaji’s relationship with its audience, the nature of which feels as natural as air but has, in fact, been ingrained and systematised through more than a century of Bollywood’s existence as an endogamous industry. There are only a few film dynasties like the Kapoors who have normalised the familial nature of celebrity culture as it stands — and the actors are deeply aware of how they exist in the public imagination due to it.

In 2009, Amitabh Bachchan had been similarly “introduced” by Jaya Bachchan as she announced the opening credits of Paa with her signature guileless comportment. The rationale behind her presence despite not playing any role in the picture was explained by director R. Balki’s 2019 statement: “Everybody [her son and husband] was involved in the project, so I thought why not ask Jayaji to do the opening credits.”

Sharmaji’s director, Hitesh Bhatia, spoke to me over the phone about the emotional involvement of Rishi Kapoor’s son, echoing Balki’s sentiments from 13 years ago: “There was no better person to do the message”. He also explained how, as the filmmaker, he felt that it was incumbent upon him to set the right context for the audience, especially those who would be watching it either abroad or much after the release. He wanted to ease the viewer into the experience with a familiar face. “[I]t is an experimental solution in the face of a dire need caused by an unfortunate incident I wouldn’t want to wish on anyone,” he said, talking about Rishi Kapoor’s untimely death in 2020 after a battle with leukaemia. “I only wanted to do justice to the legend.”

While (currently) viewed simply as an unavoidable recourse in the context of Bollywood, this casting of two actors in the same part has already been experimented with by some foreign film-makers. Luis Buñuel’s 1977 film Cet obscur objet du désir (That Obscure Object of Desire), for example, saw both Carole Bouquet and Ángela Molina play the lead role of Conchita and was remarked as “a brilliant surrealist ploy which disturbs and jars the spectator throughout […].” Critics and academics marvelled at the brilliance of the audience seeing two faces but the other characters perceiving only one, therefore establishing “an ironic distance between spectator and protagonist.”

Bhatia may not have been attempting to create a surreal on-screen world, but Sharmaji is still a pivotal moment in the narrative of Indian spectatorship as far as altering audience expectations, a litmus test for what can be presented without question — and perhaps a prototype for a new Bollywood conceit? We are certainly used to melodrama and have also been conditioned to set aside critical awareness in the face of other improbable scenarios like, for instance, the inverse of Sharmaji’s casting: the double role. Rishi Kapoor and Rawal have tackled it as well — in Raaja (1975) and Andaz Apna Apna (1994), respectively. (Incidentally, Ranbir Kapoor will be playing both father and son in the upcoming Shamshera).

So, Ranbir Kapoor’s direct-address message is also based on the guarantee of understanding  from the Indian audience — a reminder that we can stretch the ability that allowed us to accept Paresh Rawal as both Teja and Ram Gopal, and Rishi Kapoor as Raaja and Ram to accommodate them each as Sharmaji. Perhaps it is no surprise, then, that reviewers either chose to gloss over the perceptible difference, mentioning the fact of this difference as an inevitability rather than jarring, or hailed the film as a miracle of sorts. Yet, all without providing the perspective on spectatorship, as if this unconventional film would have been as readily received and loved had it not been for the late actor’s stardom.

The Indian cinema audience marks itself quite distinctly from Western theatre and cinema spectatorship, largely due to its unique and thoroughly conspicuous celebrity-worship culture (think havan ceremonies for actors and milk offerings made to movie posters). Fans travel to Mumbai from different parts of the country, even if they are on limited incomes, to stand outside their favourite celebrities’ bungalows for hours only to catch a glimpse of them on their balconies. Far beyond art appreciation or popular gossip, this is spectatorship rooted in India’s socio-cultural and religious realities and further matured by the country’s deeply feudal colonised past, along with a centuries-old caste system that is interwoven into its fabric. The dynamics dictated by these components are visible in star-fan interactions, with the celebrities also accepting this kind of frenzied enthusiasm and worship as predetermined in their line of work. Bhatia believes that the audience’s relation to the character versus the actor need not be mutually exclusive. But when celebrities are seen as gods, an actor becomes a lot more than a performer or carrier of a character on-screen, and suspending one’s disbelief becomes an act of faith that is essential to the ritual of movie watching.

Rishi Kapoor in Bobby (1973); Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya (2007).

Rishi Kapoor was not just a star, and neither is his son. The “First Family Of Indian Cinema”, the Kapoor khandaan has had a relationship with India longer than the country has had with its independence — approximately 93 years, spanning four Kapoor generations (five, if we include Prithviraj Kapoor’s father’s cameos). With their roots in the IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association), their ownership of Mumbai’s most well-known theatre (Prithvi), and past ownership of a major film studio (RK Studio), a large portion of Indian celebrity culture has been constructed and nurtured by the Kapoors — across every generation for the last century.

While Prithviraj Kapoor left an indelible mark on India’s cultural consciousness, his son Raj Kapoor holds the moniker of “the greatest showman of Indian cinema”, and he celebrated the newly independent India by encouraging patriotism and canvassing Nehruvian idealism on-screen. He was also one of the biggest soft-power influencers in Soviet-Indian relations in the ’50s. The prolific actor was a director as well and a regular contributor to Filmfare — the most significant outlet where actors influenced conversation around cinema and themselves before the telecommunications boom. And as Rishi Kapoor’s uncles and brothers explored comedy (Shammi Kapoor), edgy drama (Shashi Kapoor) and youthful romance (Randhir Kapoor), he became the ultimate “chocolate boy”, making his debut in 1973 with Bobby, which was directed by his father. His films defined the trends, moods and designs of the young, rebellious India of the turbulent ’70s through to the liberated, mushy ’90s. The film family has navigated India’s modern history in parallel with the average Indian family; the Kapoors — not just stars, but superstars — have, while remaining unscathed even by egregious controversies, contributed their fair share to redefine and maintain the nostalgic sentimentality that hits home for every generation. And Ranbir Kapoor’s takeover of the cult of the chocolate boy — beginning with his debut, Saawariya, which contains heavy references to his lineage (his character’s name is also Ranbir Raj) — is evidence that the icon of Rishi Kapoor’s heir persists in the public’s imagination, making him the logical choice to introduce Sharmaji.

When it wasn’t possible to use VFX and prosthetics and have Ranbir Kapoor complete the film as initially hoped, Bhatia took the decision to cast another actor who could match mettle instead of physicality “to bring the required gravitas to the screen”. Kapoor’s Sharmaji is pudgy and cute, reminiscent of Carl from Pixar’s Up!, whereas Rawal’s is arguably closer to the raspy Baburao from Hera Pheri.

Images courtesy: Hitesh Bhatia. Photographed by: Parnil Rajendra Vishwasrao.

During the filming, Bhatia actively avoided discussing Rishi Kapoor’s scenes with Rawal, letting the actor address the character as he chose to do. “Of course, Paresh Rawal is not from North India and so he differs in mannerism and diction, but, as the director, I had to make the actor as comfortable as possible, so we went with the requirements for the role. It was a brave call for an actor to take up a film that had already been shot halfway through with another actor,” he said. Ranbir Kapoor provided his perspective in an interview: “The kind of authenticity he [Rawal] brings to the character and the part, I don’t think I would’ve been able to bring that. I would’ve done it but, it would’ve been a sentiment of a son completing a father’s work.” On the phone, actor Suhail Nayyar, who plays one of Sharmaji’s sons in the film, affirms that “Paresh Rawal never tried to imitate Rishiji.” Nayyar speaks reverentially about two legends individually delivering their best performances, but he also believes that the audience is wise enough to acclimatise itself to the dual performances post the “first ten minutes of jerk.”

The spectator is left to reconcile these separate portrayals with each other, but we go into the film readied by Ranbir Kapoor’s emotionally resonant primer and a subconscious, intuitive desire to uphold the expansive cinematic legacy of Chintuji. We agree to take on the responsibility of acknowledging the two men behind the curtain while only “seeing” a solitary gleeful and bespectacled figure in a  brown argyle jumper, trousers and green muffler, with a briefcase filled with spices and namkeen. And we do so, until the end credits start to roll, with a sweet taste in the mouth.

The Plantronics CA12-CD-S is a really well known unit by dispatches as traffic controllers as it offers the Push To Talk (PTT) feature that allows the user to mute the mic while in a console and reactivate it by pressing a button. However as time goes by the new technology and new requirements makes this a now discontinued unit and with this it brings the new Poly CA22CD-SC and CA22CD-DC now to takes its place. The difference between the CA12CD-S and the new CA22CD family adapters is that now it offers a higher encryption on the DECT frequency, now it offers 256-AES encryption, also known as Military level FIPS 140-2 thanks to its new chip. The CA22CD family now offers a micro USB port in the back of the base, allowing the user to plug it to a computer using a micro USB to USB-A cable, so no more need of special adapters. One special note that we have to address to the CA22CD family is that the CA12CD-S parts such as batteries, remotes, cables or adapters are not backwards compatible with the new CA22CD family, so you will have to get new batteries and remotes. The only thing that old users of the CA12CD-S adapters can use with the new CA22CD family is your Plantronics corded headsets.

This Plantronics CA12CD-S push-to-talk adapter, ready with a 6-wire headset adapter, and analog console cable- the PJ-7, will provide you wireless, encrypted communication with the ability of cordless PTT, which is key in radio/911 dispatch controller environments.

Plantronics CA12CD-S PTT Wireless Adapter 92900-01The Plantronics CA12CD-S is a direct replacement of the discontinued CA12CD PTT Wireless Adapter. Differences between the two models are all but nonexistent, all features between the two are roughly identical, other than the manufacturer’s new chip set. The CA12CD Remote is the only device from the older model that cannot be used with the CA12CD-S.

CA12CD + HW520Plantronics Corded H-series Headsets like the one pictured above (Plantronics HW520), which ends in a Quick Disconnect (QD) module, clips into the matching cable on the PTT Remote Unit. All Plantronics H-Series Headsets are compatible this way with the PTT adapter.

  • What You Should Know About Trazodone for Dogs – Dogster

What You Should Know About Trazodone for Dogs – Dogster

    [ad_1]

Trazodone is rising up the ranks as veterinarians’ go-to medication to help dogs of all ages and breeds contend with behavioral issues, including anxiety, noise phobias and stress. This antidepressant is regarded as a relatively safe and effective medication to tone down worried and frightened dogs and cats.

    What is trazodone for dogs?

In technical terms, trazodone is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Its mission is to enable the feel-good hormone serotonin to work harder and more efficiently in a dog’s brain to help him feel less stressed and calmer.

Generally, trazodone is prescribed for dogs with situational anxiety, such as when their levels of fear, anxiety and stress escalate during specific times and events, according to Dr. Robin Downing, founder of the Downing Center for Animal Pain Management and director of the Windsor Veterinary Clinic in Windsor, Colorado. Dr. Downing is recognized as an international leader in animal pain management.

    Is Trazodone used for people?

Trazodone, which is the generic name (the brand names are Desyrel and Oleptro), was initially used in human medication for patients dealing with schizophrenia and major depression. While it is not approved for use in companion animals by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, trazodone is often prescribed for dogs and cats by veterinarians a what is called an “off-label” drug.

According to Dr. Lisa Radosta, a board-certified veterinary behaviorist who operates the Florida Veterinary Behavior Service in Southeast Florida, trazodone is commonly administered to dogs as a white tablet. Doses vary based on the pet’s size and other factors. Less commonly, trazodone is prescribed in liquid or capsule forms, she adds.

When is trazodone prescribed for dogs?

Trazodone is often prescribed to aid dogs facing these scenarios:

    • Visibly and uncontrollably shaking, drooling and maybe even urinating in a veterinary lobby while awaiting examination. These heightened stress symptoms continue during the veterinary examination.
    • Predicted loud events, such as a looming thunderstorm or Fourth of July fireworks celebrations within earshot of dogs who fear such sounds.
    • Expected visit to a stranger’s home, where a shy dog may cower and shiver during introductions.
    • Scheduled repairs or home improvements by a construction team that will alter the layout of the home, create loud noises from tools and give off unfamiliar scents to the family’s anxious dog.
    • Planned family vacations by car. The long hours on the road and overnight stays in pet-welcoming lodgings can make some dogs stressed and anxious from the unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells.
    • Following a surgery in which the dog needs to rest and have limited activity in order to completely heal.

Is there any research on trazodone for dogs?

In a 2016 study published in the AVMA Journal, a team of veterinarians led by Dr. Shana Gilbert-Gregory tested the effects of trazodone treatment for stress exhibited by hospitalized dogs. In the study, half of the 120 dogs were given trazodone, the other half were not. It was noted that dogs given trazodone displayed less frenetic behaviors, such as lip licking, panting and whining, than dogs not given the medication.

Dogster reached out to leading veterinarians, who shared more details about trazodone and how to safely give it to your dog.

How much trazodone should I give my dog?

Trazodone is sold per tablet and requires a prescription. It is available as 50-, 100- and 150-milligrams sizes.

What is the best way to give trazodone to your dog?

Trazodone is a slow-release medication, so have your dog swallow the pill whole, instead of crushing it up. Follow this with food. An empty stomach hastens the absorption of trazodone in the body, which could make your dog feel nauseated and drowsy.

How should I safely store trazodone?

Veterinarians recommend that you keep the prescription in its airtight bottle out of paw’s reach, such as in a kitchen drawer. Do not leave it on a counter in direct sunlight. It does not need to be refrigerated.

How long until it takes effect?

In general, the peak effect of trazodone can take up to three hours, depending on the dog, according to Dr. Downing. Although you can’t always predict stress-triggering events like a sudden thunderstorm, you can plan the dose for expected stressful situations, such as the arrival of houseguests or a trip to the veterinary clinic.

How often can I give my dog trazodone?

This medicine can be safely given once a day or as needed, depending on your dog’s behavioral issues and the veterinarian’s prescription instructions. But it is not recommended to give a dose more than every eight hours. Some dogs only need this medication as a single, situational dose to calm them. If trazodone is used every day, it can lose its effectiveness over time.

What happens if I skip a dose or accidentally give my dog extra doses of trazodone?

If you forget to give your dog a scheduled daily dose, do not double up on the next dose, cautions Dr. Downing. Giving extra doses of trazodone can be dangerous. If your dog does receive multiple extra doses over a period of days, contact your veterinarian promptly for treatment recommendations.

How will my dog act after being given trazodone?

Most dogs will appear to be relaxed and calm. Some, however, can resemble a person who is a bit tipsy after drinking alcohol, describes Dr. Downing. That is why she instructs pet parents to restrict any dogs acting “tipsy” from activities requiring balance and focus, such as swimming, running, hiking, fetching and climbing.

Dr. Radosta adds that trazodone is prescribed to act as a “chill pill” in dogs, at times reducing emotional distress. It is not a sedative and does not make the dog feel or act like a four-legged zombie.

How long does trazodone stay in my dog’s system?

Trazodone is a short-acting medication that should lose effectiveness within 24 hours. However, dogs with kidney or liver issues may experience longer effects.

    What are trazodone’s side effects?

Some dogs can experience vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomachs, constipation, dizziness and changes in appetite when taking trazodone. Some dogs may display dilated pupils or lethargy. Contact your veterinarian if your dog experiences any of these symptoms at the onset before they become severe.

Is there any drug that works well in concert with trazodone?

Sometimes, trazodone is not quite enough to be effective in relieving stress and anxiety, and your veterinarian may also prescribe gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant, or an anti-seizure medicine. Like trazodone, gabapentin is prescribed “off-label” to dogs by veterinarians.

Trazodone and gabapentin complement each other and work in different pathways in the body, explains Dr. Downing.

Can my dog take other medications with trazodone?

There are many medications that can interact with trazodone in dogs, but unless you are giving your dog trazodone regularly, there shouldn’t be any health issues from a once-in-a-while use, says Dr. Downing.

That said, drug interactions can occur if your dog is also on the following medications:

    • Diuretics (commonly prescribed for dogs retaining excessive fluid or dealing with congestive heart failure)
    • Some anti-hypertension drugs to control blood pressure
    • Metoclopramide, an anti-vomiting drug used to treat acid reflux, nausea and vomiting
    • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as meloxicam or carprofen, used to ease joint pain, swelling and stiffness
    • Tramadol, an opioid used to manage pain, including post-surgical and osteoarthritis in dogs

Herbal supplements that contain St. John’s Wort can also cause an adverse reaction, adds Dr. Downing.

What are other examples of “off-label” SSRIs that may be prescribed to dogs dealing with behavior disorders?

A popular SSRI is fluoxetine, which is found in Prozac and Reconcile.

    Do non-prescription calming options work?

There is a growing number of companies manufacturing calming chews and oils that may reduce anxiety in some dogs. Ingredients typically include organic hemp seed oil, chamomile, ginger root, valerian root, melatonin and passion flower, which are all known for calming properties. Discuss these supplements with your veterinarian as dogs react differently to these ingredients.

What other non-medication options can be used to compliment trazodone?

Some dogs benefit from acupressure sessions, which release feel-good endorphins naturally, says Dr. Downing. Another option is a compression garment, such as ThunderShirt, that applies a steady pressure on their torsos, much like receiving a loving hug.

Adaptil gives off calming faux canine pheromones through a collar, spray or diffuser form, adds Dr. Radosta. Always consult your veterinarian before considering any of these options.

How can I tell if my dog is stressed?

Highly stressed dogs are easy to spot: They tend to whine or attempt to flee the situation by hiding or trying to dart out the door.

Stress happens to everyone, including people and dogs. The key is how you deal with it, says Dr. Radosta. Here are more-subtle signs that your dog might be scared or stressed:

    • Acting clingy
    • Squinting or blinking his eyes
    • Licking his lips
    • Lifting his front paw
    • Pacing
    • Refusing treats
    • Shaking his body
    • Suddenly shedding heavily
    • Turning his head
    • Yawning

How trazodone helped my dog, Bujeau

When I got married five years ago, we took the time to properly introduce our cats and dogs to one another. Among them was my spouse’s gentle giant of a dog named Bujeau. She was a 90-pound Bernese Mountain Dog mix who loved cats and was generally mellow except for two triggers – thunderstorms and veterinary visits. She had developed severe noise phobia from the loud, booming thunderstorms typical in Dallas, Texas, and she went into major panic mode by drooling, shaking and even piddling when entering the veterinary clinic for even routine exams. She tried to squeeze her mountain of a body under my chair in the lobby.

Working with my veterinarian, Dr. Debora Charles of the Casa Linda Animal Clinic, we decided that Bujeau would greatly benefit from trazodone before predictable events that caused her panic.

Trazodone was a positive game changer for Bujeau. I gave her a tablet about 90 minutes before a storm or vet visit. I also paired the trazodone with a high-grade treat, usually small pieces of boiled chicken, to help counter condition her association with these stress triggers.

Trazodone was a success. Bujeau even remained calm and mellow while being bathed, brushed and trimmed by the professional pet groomer at the veterinary clinic.

  • Classic Blue Hues for Your Kitchen

Classic Blue Hues for Your Kitchen

    [ad_1]

    colorful-kitchen-cabinets

From the start of the 20th century, kitchen design has celebrated a highly diverse palette. A glimpse through the decades reveals a multitude of hues that were once vogue in cabinetry, décor and appliances. Kitchens in the ’30s and ’40s often featured a bold and expressive use of color including black, red and green. The ’50s were dominated by softer shades of blue, pink and yellow, including candy-colored cabinets, punctuated by matching appliances. In addition, during this time, cabinets were more likely composed of steel rather than wood.

Kitchen Design Celebrates a Colorful Past, Present and Future

Fast forward to the 1960s, when wood cabinetry, wood trim, and rustic textures reflected the migration to the suburbs. Remember the I Love Lucy episodes when Lucy and Ricky moved to the Connecticut countryside? Then, it was an era of knotty pine kitchens, exposed brick, stone, and cherry red accents in gingham.

From all-out ‘retro’ to the ’80s and ’90s, a time when dark walnut or piney wood grain cabinets had dark hammered knobs or pulls; some trends may never reemerge, while other looks remain ready to resurface with a fresh new take. The kitchen design experts at Kitchen Magic continue to see a resurgence of classic traditional blues, including colonial blue – is not a once in a blue moon choice, but now considered a kitchen remodeling staple.

Below, we’ve gathered some of our favorite remodeling projects where blue is incorporated into the design transformation and you can view more kitchen remodeling projects on our Inspiration Gallery.

This historic Philadelphia brownstone got a fresh lift when the homeowners sought a new take on a bicentennial look. Colonial Blue was selected for the lower cabinets, while Satin White was used for refacing the upper cabinetry. Weybourne countertops and a glass backsplash further the effect to visually expand the space.

    Statement Bluecomeau-feature-remodel-B&A

Adding blue was mandatory for this hybrid kitchen as it’s the homeowner’s favorite color. A custom kitchen island was created to replace the peninsula while existing cabinetry was refaced in Satin White Shaker style doors. Colonial Blue infuses the island with a classic, statement-worthy look.

Blue is the Jeans of Kitchen Design

Just like your favorite pair of blue jeans, blue fits almost every design style. If your kitchen is feeling blah, consider a few classic kitchen hues, including blue – a color that continues to rise on the popularity list. From light and gray blues to rich, dark navy hues, color certainly brings new life to kitchen remodeling projects.

Ro Khanna, Gavin Newsom, J.B. Pritzker Say They’re Backing Biden in 2024: CNN

    [ad_1]

Three Democratic leaders are saying they don’t want to run against President Joe Biden in a primary, even as they’re being eyed as potential presidential contenders.

Rep. Ro Khanna and Gov. Gavin Newsom, both of California, and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker told CNN that they’re backing Biden, who has said he intends to run in 2024 if he’s in good health.

Khanna told CNN he would “absolutely not” seek his party’s nomination and that Biden, if he chooses to run, is still the best person to defeat former President Donald Trump.

“I plan to support (Biden) because of the danger that Donald Trump poses,” said Khanna, who represents Silicon Valley and served as co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign. “I would certainly not do anything to weaken him, and I hope no one else will do anything to weaken him. He’s still the safe brand in the midwestern states to make sure Trump is kept far away from the Oval Office.”

Khanna’s support for Biden in 2024 is “nuts,” progressive commentator Cenk Uygur said on his talk show “The Young Turks,” citing Biden’s low poll numbers.

A recent New York Times and Siena College poll found nearly two-thirds of Democrats don’t want Biden to be their party’s presidential nominee in 2024.

“Why did you just say Biden is our best bet to beat Trump?” Uygur said on his show of Khanna. “No he’s not. Not even close. Not within a million miles of that being true.”

Khanna is beloved among Sanders progressives, while Pritzker and Newsom have been offering different approaches to taking on Republicans, signs that they could be laying the groundwork for a future presidential campaign.

Pritzker, who also said he supports Biden, drew attention for his strongly-worded response to the Highland Park mass shooting on July 4. “If you are angry today, I’m here to tell you to be angry,” he said then, in contrast to Biden’s milder posture.

Newsom, meanwhile, told CNN that Democrats need to “unify” and “not destroy ourselves from within.” Newsom has been picking fights with Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis with a $105,000 ad buy over the July 4 weekend, fueling national speculation about whether he’s considering his own 2024 bid.

“We need to have our President’s back,” he told CNN. “But we also have to get on the field. He needs troops.”

Trump has repeatedly teased another presidential run but he’s held off on making an official announcement.

“The way that we think about clothing has changed; we are more oriented towards individuality now, and what feels true is what goes! And so, I had to discover the different personalities in each of the garments while bringing them together for the looks.”
-Akanksha Pandey, Senior Fashion Editor, Verve

Shirt, from Naushad Ali; structured dress, by Abhishek Kumar; skirt, from Tui Tui; churidar salwar, from Rajesh Pratap Singh, hair clips, from Amrapali Jewels; haath phool, from Olio; shoes, socks, both stylist’s own.

“I used to think that the salwar was a set until I made an actual pattern for the garment. I don’t particularly like the salwar. I prefer a cleaner look, but I am certainly open to seeing both women and men in more comfortable trousers for day-to-day wear.”
    -Abhishek Kumar, designer

Shirt, from Leh; jacket, from Chola; salwar pants, from Naushad Ali; belt (worn around the neck), by Payal Khandwala; shoes, from Vaishali S.

“I keep on shouting that this is the decade of India. The world is looking desperately for the forgotten world of slow fashion with its detailed and skilled workmanship, sustainability and social impact, innovation, comfort, design: these are all attributes at which India can be number one, and the salwar itself should be at the forefront of it.”
    -Vaishali S, designer

Mesh top, from NorBlack NorWhite; dress (worn inside), from Button Masala; salwar, from Abraham & Thakore, shoes, from Fendi; socks, stylist’s own.

“It mimics the trials and triumphs of each generation’s quest for freedom. While the salwar enabled movement for women, it was far from the inner liberation that the pantsuit gave to women in the West. The beauty, for me, has been our ability to navigate our past and heritage while being in full resonance with the present experience of life.”
-Doyel Joshi, interdisciplinary artist and creative director

Top, from Payal Khandwala; skirt from Vaishali S; draped salwar from Payal Pratap; belt, from Chola; shoes, from Fendi; socks, stylist’s own.

“It’s all about delving into your cultural heritage and embracing elements that are relevant in a modern context. The salwar is really a version of the baggy comfortable trouser; twisting it slightly in terms of functionality, volume and cut can result in a cool avatar that resonates with today’s youth.”
    -Payal Pratap, designer

Top (worn inside), from Ōshadi; sheer kurta (worn inside), from Rajesh Pratap Singh; dress, from NorBlack NorWhite; waistcoat, from Āroka; salwar, from Abraham & Thakore; brooch, from Amrapali Jewels; socks, stylist’s own.

Top, from Ōshadi; white pants (worn inside), from Lovebirds; black structured salwar from Rajesh Pratap Singh; sweatshirt (worn around the waist), from Chola; mesh bodysuit, stylist’s own.

Top, from Leh; dress (wrapped around the waist), from Āroka; salwar from Abraham & Thakore; structured drape (worn around the torso), by Abhishek Kumar.

“I don’t think that young people will give up their blue jeans for the salwar. But there is always room for innovation and cultural shifts.”

  • Why Cybersecurity Matters for Musicians
– PHIATON

Why Cybersecurity Matters for Musicians – PHIATON

    [ad_1]

“Get a good lawyer!” — This was the legit advice that Taylor Swift said when asked about her advice to those who wanted to be a successful singer. This was during her 2016 interview with Vogue. Indeed, getting a good lawyer for the security of your music files and your career is similar to crafting your cybersecurity measures.

Using residential proxies allows you to secure your music in cyberspace. Proxies are capable of providing you with additional security in all your internet activities, especially the confidential information that you are storing. Proxies come in different types with a variety of features. Choose the appropriate proxy based on your needs.

Leaking has also become a major threat in the music industry. This became a serious concern with the rise of internet users. With the rise of internet users, there has been an equal rise of websites and applications that users can access to download songs and music for free.

In 1999, the case involving Napster, a software program that allowed internet users to download free copies of music, was the beginning of the end for free music exchange in the cyberspace.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) sued the Napster operator for copyright infringement in 1999. On July 28, 2000, the court decided that Napster had violated copyright laws for music piracy and exchange. The court then ordered them to stop trading.

    Music Industry Revenue Statistics

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recorded a 9.2% growth in the 2020 music industry revenue statistics. Accordingly, this is the fifth straight year that they have noted growth in said industry. Paid subscriptions and on-demand streaming services have also contributed to this increase.

Further, full-service paid subscriptions reached 14.6% growth in 2020. Meanwhile, the limited tier paid subscriptions increased to 13.4% compared to previous years. RIAA has also noted an increase in the number of subscriptions. They now have 75.5 million subscribers in 2020 compared to 60.4 million subscribers in 2019.

The Internet has become an effective platform for the music industry to increase its revenue in the United States. Dubbed as the home to the world’s biggest music market, the United States has become proof of the growing market for music enthusiasts.

From becoming a functional platform for music growth, the internet has also become its own worst enemy. The threats of illegal distribution, leaking of music files before official release, and other threats have caused a decline in monetization for many groups.

    Cybersecurity Measures are you friends

Cybersecurity measures are your best friend in this game. Its function is important in protecting and straying your crafts away from possible attacks — in this case, digital attacks. These attacks could access and distort your music file, hold them hostage for ransomware, and even be stolen and leaked to the world wide web. In some worst cases, these attackers could destroy your name in the industry.

    • Competition in the Market Industry

Overeager fans and bad actors trying to leak content are not the only concern in the music industry. Music taste and options have also greatly expanded in recent years. Personal formulas mixed with creative and structural elements have created many new styles of music, introducing more people to varying styles of music and further diluting what’s out there in the music world.

This enhanced competition has created additional incentives for people to steal ideas from another one and often use dirty tactics to stay on top. That’s why it’s ever more important for one to secure his/her music files. As you hit the spotlight in this industry, more hackers will be interested in you and you could become the next target.

These attacks may take shape in many different forms. This could be a simple email or text message from what you might think is a known associate with a malicious link that could hijack your phone or computer with a Trojan horse to something much more sophisticated when it comes to more well established artists.

Aside from protecting your name in this industry, how could you further protect your music? First, password-protect your music files. If your music is already being streamed, consult with a legal professional as soon as possible. They could help plan out measures to prevent stealing, copying, and taking away monetization from you.

    Conclusion

Music industry revenues and markets are growing and expected to keep rising in the coming years. Consequently, the volume of incidents involving cybersecurity will likely follow suit. That is why it is important now – more than ever – that any professional artist or rising star should ensure that their artistic contents are protected and safe from any potential attack.

Your music is your life. It is a representation of you, the people around you, and all the intangibles that makes you uniquely yourself. So do all that you can to protect your music and the story that it carries. With cyber security measures in place, you can safely take your career to the next level, as you also step on the journey of exploring yourself and inspiring others with your music.
