A girl presumed killed in the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7 is likely alive, her father says.
Thomas Hand previously said he was “relieved” the eight year old, was dead, rather than a Hamas hostage.
But it has now been suggested that she is could be one of more than 240 Hamas hostages in Gaza.

A father who expressed relief his daughter was dead because being held hostage by Hamas was “worse than death” has discovered the eight-year-old is likely alive and has been abducted to Gaza.
In the aftermath of the attack on Kibbutz Be’eri in southern Israel, Irish-Israeli Thomas Hand told CNN he had been told his daughter Emily was dead and that he was relieved to hear the news.
“I went ‘yes!’ I went ‘yes!’ and smiled,” he said while fighting back tears. “Because that is the best news of the possibilities that I knew.”
“She was either dead or in Gaza. And if you know anything about what they do to people in Gaza, that is worse than death.”
Hand said that now that he knew she was alive, the focus was on getting her home safely.
“Our mindset changed immediately. We realized that we had to shift our approach. The mourning has ended, and now we must do everything to bring her back home,” Hand told Israeli outlet Ynet.
This is 8-year-old Emily Hand of Kibbutz Beeri. Her father Tom told CNN how he was relieved when he heard she was murdered, since the alternative is absolute hell.
This week his nightmare just got worse when he learned she was indeed kidnapped by Hamas to Gaza pic.twitter.com/Q8I39Mr43j
The outlet noted that the reports of her death did not come from official sources and that she was officially listed as missing as her body was never recovered.
Hand said: “We were told that in the house where she was, no blood of hers was found anywhere, nor was any found nearby. In fact, no sign was discovered that suggests she is not alive, so they assume that she was kidnapped alive to Gaza and is there now.”
Hamas is believed to have kidnapped over 240 people and taken them to Gaza during the surprise attack that killed around 1,400 people in southern Israel.
Israel has retaliated with a ground invasion of Gaza and bombarding the enclave with an intense campaign of air strikes, which has killed over 10,000 people, per the health ministry.
Israeli officials have said they will not agree to a cease-fire until all hostages are released. So far, Hamas has released four hostages.
– Which Plantronics headset QD (quick disconnect) cable will work with my phone?
A question that we are asked daily is, “Which connection cable do I need for THIS headset to work with my phone?”
Well first off, almost all headsets & parts are proprietary into their own brands. So, while there may be a few oddball cables out there that claims to work with the big name-brand’s equipment (ie. Plantronics, Jabra, etc.), let’s keep this simple & stay within the same brand as your headset. For now, let’s assume that you have a Plantronics headset (Called an H-Series Headset).
All corded headsets for Professional Office phones require 2 parts; the headset itself, and then the connection cable. This cable will vary depending upon your phone’s brand & sometimes even the model number. While most of these phone’s will use an RJ9 modular plug, that doesn’t mean that “Any old headset will work just because it has an RJ9 plug.” On the contrary! Each phone manufacturer wires their headset ports different from one another. So remember, just because it fits…doesn’t mean it’ll work.
There are simply far too many phone brands to mention them all in this blog, so for sake of space (And your attention span) I will just list the most commonly used brands & which cables will work with them…in conjunction with a Plantronics H-Series Headset.
CISCO Phones – For most of the Cisco phones (Generally those with a model number in the 7900, 8900, or 9900’s with a dedicated headset port) you will use the Plantronics Cisco/M22 Cable. However, if you have a Cisco/LinkSys “SPA” model phone, then you would use a special cable, simply called the Plantronics SPA Cable.
POLYCOM Phones – For Polycom phone’s it can be a bit tricky. For most of the Polycom IP phones you can ONLY use the following model headsets from Plantronics (HW710, HW720, HW510, HW520, HW540, H31, H81N), in addition to a cable called the Polaris Cable. However, if you have the following Polycom SoundPoint models (IP320, IP321, IP330, IP331, Pro SE220, or Pro SE225) then you can use ANY of the Plantronics H-Series headsets in conjunction with the 2.5mm to QD Adapter Cable.
NORTEL, NEC Phones – This is the single most commonly used cable in the industry…called the A10 Cable. This comes in 2 flavors; the standard A10, or an A10-12 High Output Cable (Which is exclusively designed for use with the Nortel phones due to its low level onboard amplifier). Essentially, if you have an NEC or a Nortel phone with a dedicated headset port…you are almost certainly going to be using an A10 Cable, along with ANY Plantronics H-Series Headset.
AVAYA Phones – Once again, Avaya phones have 2 different cables depending upon your phone model. For the most part, if you have an Avaya 9600 or 1600 series phone (With a dedicated headset port) you will use the HIS Cable. However, if you use any other Avaya phone model and it has a dedicated headset port, you will almost certainly use the HIC Cable instead….again, with an H-Series Headset. Call us if you are unsure.
YEALINK Phones – For Yealink basic desk phones with a headset port on the back you are required to use the Plantronics Polaris U10P-S Reversed Cable, you need to be careful when ordering your cable as there are different models of Plantronics bottom cable with similar names and can get confusing, this plus any of the H-Series Headset. For newer desk phones with a USB port on the top or side like the Yealink T54W or T57W if want a corded headset you can get a USB-A headset from Poly, the recommended here would be the Blackwire 5210 USB-Aas this will work as plug and play as long the USB port on the Yealink is enabled. For Yealink cordless phones like the W52P you will need the Plantronics 2.5mm Quick Disconnect cable 18 inch and any of the H-Series Headsets, for W56P/W56H/W53P/W53H you are going to need the Plantronics 3.5mm Headset Smartphone Cable Apple iPhone, 18″ and any H-Series Headset or if want to make it simpler you can get the Blackwire 5210 USB-Aand simply plug in the 3.5mm jack headset into your cordless Yealink phone.
PANASONIC Phones –This one is simple…if you have a Panasonic phone with a headset port (Small round hole, called a 2.5mm port) then you can use ANY of the Plantronics H-Series headsets in conjunction with the 2.5mm to QD Adapter Cable.
My Phone Has No Headset Port – If your phone has no dedicated headset port, then you will have to use an “External amplifier” such as the M22 Vistaalong with theH-Series Headset. Almost all handset/receiver ports (Even though they are RJ9) don’t have enough power to amplify any headset.
* Important note:Most of these cables look incredibly similar to each other. There are very tiny subtleties that can help to identify them, since they are not always listed on the cable itself. My next Blog will go into how you can tell these cables apart from one another.
WIRELESS SOLUTIONS
We talked about corded solution for these desk phones, that doesn’t mean that you are limited to only being at the desk all day and next to the phone. Next we will show some options on wireless headsets for your desk phone.
CISCO Phones – For most of the Cisco phones models 6900/7900/8900 the phone has the built in EHS capability which means that you can get a wireless headset and a special cable for the remote answer and no longer a mechanical lifter needed. The one we will recommend here will the bundle of the Plantronics CS540+EHS Remote Answer Bundle for Cisco Phones, this bundle is a easy to install and plug and play as long as your Cisco desk phone allows you to enable the remote answer capability on the menu of the phone. If your Cisco is a SPA desk phone even being a little outdated, you can still get a wireless headset with remote answer, for this case the Plantronics CS540+HL10 Wireless Headset Bundlewill be your way to go and will work properly with your SPA desk phone.
POLYCOM Phones – Similar as on the case of Cisco desk phones, some Polycom phones will have the built in EHS capability. For Polycom Soundpoint IP320/IP321/IP330/IP331 you are going to need the Plantronics CS540+HL10 Wireless Headset Bundle as these models of phones don’t have the EHS capability but will make a good job for you. For any other Soundpoint desk phones, VVX and CCX you will be fine with the Poly Savi 7210+EHS Remote Answer Polycom IP Phone Packageas this is one of the newest headsets from Poly compatible with your VVX desk phone covering one ear with a further range. Same as with the Cisco desk phone case, you will need to enable the EHS capability on your desk phone before plug in the headset/adapters as the phone will need to restart.
NORTEL, NEC Phones – Nortel is another brand that can be a little tricky to find out which wireless headset would be compatible. Most of the Nortel models are going to be your basic VoIP desk phone and for the same reason your best shot to get a wireless headset would using the Poly Savi 7220+HL10 Wireless Headset Bundle Package for a stereo sound headset with remote answer for your basic Nortel. If your Nortel is on the family series of 11XXs that are branded as Avaya-Nortel, the phone has the EHS capability and for same reason you need the APU-72 hookswitch cable instead of the HL10 lifter to work with your Poly Savi 7310 Office Wireless Headset Mono, deskphone and PC
AVAYA Phones – The majority of the Avaya desk phones in the market will have the EHS capability depending on the model you can go with the Plantronics Savi 8240 Office+ EHS Avaya J100 1400 1600 9400 9600 if want to use your headset with your Avaya J139 for example and with your computer and your cell phone at the office. Depending on the model of Avaya you will need a different EHS for the remote answer and this can become a little confusing and frustrating, if in doubt give us a call and we can make sure to order you the proper EHS for your phone. If your Avaya desk phone is one of those joint brand phones with Nortel for example, most likely it will not have the EHS capability and for same reason you will have to go with the Plantronics CS540+HL10 Wireless Headset Bundlein order to get a nice quality headset compatible with this kind of phone and the remote answer when away from the desk.
YEALINK Phones – Newer models from Yealink will have the built in capability for remote answer. The best way to find this is by turning over the phone, you will see the desk phone ports and you should have 1 port for your handset (receiver), 1 port for a headset, your Ethernet port, your power port and 1 more port with the legend EXT. If that is the case you will need the Plantronics CS540+EHS Yealink Certified Wireless Remote Answer. The latest models from Yealink will have a USB port on the top, if this is the case instead of ordering the EHS36 of the mentioned bundle, you will need to get the EHS40 instead as these newest models replaced the EXT port by the USB. If your Yealink doesn’t have either port on it, this means that the phone is a basic model and the best alternative for this scenario will be getting the Poly Savi 7210+HL10 Wireless Headset Combo Package as these models doesn’t have the EHS capability.
Cordless phones – For this kind of phones depends on the service you get if is an analog phone line such as fax for example the best way to get you with a wireless headset will be with the Plantronics CS540 Wireless Headset, Convertible (C054, CO54)and get the Plantronics TR-11 Analog Adapter Cable CS540, Savi Wireless Head using these 2 items together with a splitter will let you use your cordless phone with a wireless headset and get remote answer with it. If your service is VoIP unfortunately the best alternative would be replacing the cordless phone with a regular desk phone as wireless headsets are not cordless VoIP phone compatible.

Huskies have a lot of fur and shed twice a year, but don’t let it intimidate you: Grooming is easy if you know the secrets (hint: never shave your Husky’s coat!). Tim Vogel, CEO of dog grooming franchise Scenthound, combs through his top three Husky grooming tips.
How to groom a Husky
Tip 1: Never shave a Husky’s coat
Huskies are double-coated, meaning they have a top coat of longer, harsh hairs and a soft, down-like hair undercoat that provides heating, cooling and protection. Shaving a Husky can make him hotter and cause his skin to sunburn. Shaving also damages the top coat and disrupts the hair growth cycle, meaning it may take years to grow back correctly, Tim shares.
Because Huskies naturally shed, there’s no need for regular trips to the groomer. Focus on brushing and quickening the shedding process with the right tools (listed below) to keep your Husky’s hair and skin looking healthy.
To maintain healthy nails, read our guide on trimming your dog’s nails at home, or visit your professional groomer every 4 to 6 weeks.
Husky grooming should include monthly baths and weekly brushing, at the least. This keeps the undercoat from matting, Tim says. A tangled coat is more than just unsightly — it’s straight-up painful, says Tim.
Keeping track of your weekly grooming schedule in a journal helps establish and maintain good habits.
Tip 3: Groom more often during shedding season
Lastly, Tim urges Husky parents to do extra grooming during shedding seasons, which typically occur twice a year in the Spring and Fall. During this time, Huskies shed their undercoats, also referred to as blowing their coats, which regulates their body temperatures during different seasons. Bathe them weekly and brush daily. This removes the loosened coat and prevents matting, Tim says.
Shedding seasons also means hair everywhere! Here are our top picks for cleaning up dog hair.
Tools for easy Husky grooming
The four most important Husky grooming tools are:
With the right tools and knowledge, dog parents will find it easy to keep their Husky tangle free.
Bridgewater handed new hires a 90-page printout of The Principles, a slew of ever-changing rules to live by from billionaire founder Ray Dalio, and the firm required that the staff watch daily videos of Dalio’s various teachings, called Management Principles Trainings, and take accompanying quizzes, the book said.
Dalio even had a team put together a five-section, closed-book Principles Test that was mandatory for all employees, Copeland wrote. “The Fund” published a handful of questions from the exam.
One of them was “Which of the following definitions of arrogant is what we mean when we use it at Bridgewater?” The right answer: “A person who has an unjustified and exaggerated confidence that his/her opinion is correct.”
In a yes-or-no part of the exam, one question posed, “Should we have truth at all costs so that if a person lies they should always be fired?”
One string of questions asked:
“About what percentage of the Bridgewater population would steal if they could get away with it?
Are you one of them?
Did you answer the last question honestly?
Looking around you, what percent of the people you have contact with do you think will need to be sorted for Bridgewater to remain excellent?
Do you think that maybe you should be one of those people?”
Employee performance on the exam was based on how well their answers matched with Dalio’s own, as well as the Principles.
Dalio founded Bridgewater in 1975 and stepped down as CEO in 2017 and as chairman at the end of 2021. He remains a member of the operating board and a senior investor and mentors the CIOs and Investment Committee. In 2017, Dalio published his own book chronicling the lessons he learned throughout his career, called “Principles: Life and Work.”
Bridgewater did not comment directly on Copeland’s account of how “The Principles” were implemented at the company, however Dalio posted a general response to the book on LinkedIn. He dismissed “The Fund” as “another one of those sensational and inaccurate tabloid books written to sell books to people who like gossip.”

His makeup artist Ignacia Soto-Aguilar tells NewBeauty: “A solid skin care regimen is crucial to minimize scene interruptions [for touch-ups].” And since a lot of his scenes move between the inside of a hot, steamy kitchen and outside in the harsh, dry, cold Chicago winter, it’s important to keep the skin as healthy as possible. Part of the routine for keeping Carmy’s skin glowing is the Hibiscus Ultra Lift Eye Cream. According to Soto-Aguilar, Jeremy loves the results so much that he now follows the same routine at home.
3. Camila Mendes
Perhaps best-known for her role as Veronica Lodge in Riverdale, Camila Mendes shared her favorite skin care products with Glamour.com and name-dropped an Eminence best seller!
“The Eminence Organics Stone Crop Hydrating Mist is one of my recent favorites. I like to spray a few spritzes of that on a cotton pad and wipe my face with it after cleansing. Not only does it remove all the extra product residue on my skin, but it also smells incredible.”
And when asked about her desert island products, another Eminence fave, the Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser, made the cut! What can we say, Camila has good taste (and great skin)!

“But in practice, meeting a dog’s protein, amino acid and macro and micronutrient needs is complex and can be difficult to do properly when meat is eliminated from the diet,” she says.
Look for these criteria when buying vegan dog food
“It’s best to not just feed straight kibble,” she says. “There are good canned selections on the market. There are some formulas that have some organic ingredients.”
When choosing vegan dog food, Dr. Halperin suggests following these criteria:
Choose a reputable brand that has done extensive testing and feeding trials on their finished product.
The pet food company should employ a veterinary nutritionist or a nutritionist with a PhD in animal The diet should be formulated by the veterinary nutritionist trained in pet food formulation or someone with an advanced degree in animal nutrition.
The manufacturer should perform ingredient validation, final diet nutrient analysis, toxicology, bacteriology and packaging/shelf-life screenings prior to, during and after manufacturing.
Try these vegan dog foods
If dog parents opt for a vegan lifestyle for their pets, what are some options?
These three vegan dog foods meet the expert criteria mentioned above:
Harvey’s Canine Health Miracle Dog Food lends itself well to a vegan diet for canines because it allows for protein rotation in a nutrient-dense pre-mix. In fact, longtime vegan, actress Alicia Silverstone details in her blog how she makes her own dogs’ vegan diet with this food. It’s a blend of six organic grains and nine dehydrated vegetables without dyes, chemicals or preservatives. Preparation involves adding hot water, a protein and an oil like olive oil. A 5-pound bag is $46 and makes 33, 1-pound meals.
Halo’s Garden of Vegan comes in both dry and wet food They are complete-and-balanced recipes made with sustainable, humane ingredients and are non-GMO. The dry food contains prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics to help support digestive health. Halo also has meat-free treats, including Peanut & Pumpkin; Sweet Potato, Carrot & Quinoa; Oats & Blueberry; and Oats, Peanut Butter & Banana. The dry food is $48.99 for a 10-pound bag and a case of 12, 5.5-ounce cans is $29.99.
JustFoodForDogs’ Tofu & Quinoa Recipe is made with fresh, whole food, plant-based ingredients, including tofu, sweet potatoes, quinoa, kale, white mushrooms, blueberries and nutritional yeast. JustFoodForDogs is a company that has made a name for itself by offering freshly cooked human food designed for pets. The vegan diet was developed in conjunction with vegan pet nutrition researchers. $79.03 for a 7.8-pound small box.
Should dogs be vegan?
Ultimately the choice of whether to convert your dog into a plant eater is up to you. There are many brands adding vegan lines or that are entirely vegan. If you decide to try dog food, look for a company that has done its research and that also has an eye for quality ingredients — like no GMOs and with organics.
“If a dog owner is dedicated to feeding a vegan diet I recommend working with a veterinary nutritionist to ensure the diet they choose meets the dog’s specific needs and takes into account age, breed, activity level and any health conditions they may be living with,” says Dr. Halperin.
“Many pet owners may be looking into vegan diets as a more eco-friendly or humane alternative to traditional diets. This is very understandable — plant-based diets for humans make a lot of sense when one is trying to minimize our impact on the environment and on animals. However, considering how complex nutrition is and how dogs’ needs differ from humans’ needs, it can be safer for our pets for us to find other ways to promote sustainability such as limiting meat sources in diets to sustainable-sourced fish or working with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to formulate a diet using humanely sourced meat.”

Rising air pollution in China suggests its economy in on track to see a jump in growth, according to DataTrek Research.
Oil prices should rise if China’s economy is accelerating, as its air quality suggests.
“We prefer owning US large cap energy to Chinese equities to play this turn,” DataTrek said.

Rising air pollution in China’s five largest cities suggests its economy is about to see a surge in growth, according to a Monday note from DataTrek Research.
“The country’s slow recovery from its prolonged pandemic-related shutdown was visible in the skies over the country’s major cities long before it showed up in the official economic data. This proves our basis point that air pollution readings can give investors an early call on a country’s economy,” DataTrek Research co-founder Nicholas Colas said.
As more factories ramp up production, more consumers travel, and more people consume, pollution increases and air quality deteriorates.
He said recent air-quality data for five of China’s largest cities suggest the country’s economic recovery is getting underway.
In fact, the air quality in Beijing has seen a “very visible” increase in air pollution in the last two weeks, as has Guangzhou, Chongqing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai.
“Air quality readings are finally suggesting a return to better growth for the Chinese economy,” Colas said.
While the readings are still cleaner than levels seen in 2019, they’re tracking considerably higher than the past few months.
To be sure, it will take weeks for the recent rise in China’s air pollution to register in the official economic data. But if it does, he said it would signal “synchronized economic expansion.”
All of this suggests to Colas that oil prices could be headed higher in the coming months as China’s economy sees a rebound in growth.
“If this call is correct, the first place we should see it is in global oil prices. US large cap Energy stocks are therefore a sensible play if the Chinese economy is really starting to get back on track,” he said, adding that he prefers to own US large cap energy stocks over Chinese stocks to take advantage of the recent uptick in the country’s air pollution.
Brent crude prices soared over the summer and neared $100 per barrel in September but have since retreated sharply, hovering around $86 on Monday.
Dogs can have an occasional taste of your morning almond milk, as almonds are not toxic to dogs and can reduce inflammation. Look for unsweetened and unflavored varieties — a good choice lists just water and almonds as ingredients.
“To ensure their dogs’ almond milk is safe, I highly recommend that people make it themselves at home,” says Diana.
Can dogs drink almond milk? Yes, and here are the benefits
A fortified almond milk variety usually includes added vitamins and minerals, including:
Vitamin A
Vitamin E
Vitamin D
calcium
“Almonds are especially high in vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that can help decrease oxidative damage to cells,” says Diana. Oxidative damage creates inflammation that can lead to a host of chronic inflammatory diseases, including cancer, she explains.
“Note that almond milk is not the best source of protein compared to other plant milks, such as soy,” Diana adds.
So, the next time you’re baking treats for your dog, reach for the almond milk instead of cow’s milk. If you’re picking up goodies from the dog bakery, ask for treats made with almond milk.
Is almond milk high in fat?
Depending on the almond-to-water ratio, almond milk can have a high fat content. A creamier almond milk contains more almonds than water and will be higher in fat per serving. However, the fat in almond milk is monosaturated, the same healthy fats found in avocado and olive oils, Diana explains.
“A good rule of thumb is that almond milk should be considered as a treat, and treats should not make up more than 10% of a dog’s daily calories,” Diana says.
Avoid serving almond milk as a regular treat if your dog needs to lose weight. Foods higher in fat are difficult for some dogs to digest and can result in watery, oily diarrhea. In less common circumstances, eating too many high-fat foods leads to a serious condition called pancreatitis, which can be fatal if not treated right away.
It’s safe to share that small sip of unsweetened almond milk with your dog. And the next time you visit your local coffee shop, ask for whipped almond milk instead of cow’s milk for your dog’s pup treat!
Russian troops are living in grueling conditions on the front line in Ukraine, the UK MoD said.
Soldiers described being “wet from head to toe” for weeks at a time, per the report.
They also described eating “monotonous food” and not even being able to boil a mug of tea.

Russian soldiers are experiencing increasingly grueling conditions on the front line in Ukraine as winter approaches, according to an intelligence update from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Sunday.
Soldiers who had recently returned from the front line described being “wet from head to toe” for weeks at a time while speaking at the Ogakov Readings military affairs conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
The soldiers said they ate “monotonous” food in muddy conditions, and one said they were not even able to boil a cup of tea because lighting a fire would risk alerting Ukrainian forces.
The update also noted that keeping up decent living conditions in defensive positions was a challenge for all forces, but open-source evidence highlighted “a generally very poor level” of “basic field administration amongst Russian forces.”
It said this was likely due to a scarcity of “motivated junior commanders” and “variable logistical support,” per the MoD.
As the Russia-Ukraine war enters its second winter, fighting continues to rage around the country, and Ukraine’s notoriously snowy and icy winters will likely pose challenges for both sides, especially when it comes to operating weaponry, moving troops and equipment, and maintaining soldiers’ well-being.
This will likely mean artillery remains a key weapon in the conflict, as static troops and barren landscapes will make it difficult for forces on both sides to conceal themselves, Colonel Oleksandr Popov, an artillery commander, told Reuters.
“It’s one thing to run 300 metres to an enemy position in June, and totally another when you are up to your knees in mud, warm clothes, protective gear, a backpack with spare clothes,” he added.
Ukraine’s top general Valerii Zaluzhnyi told The Economist this week that the war was at a stalemate, an assessment which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disputed.
Ukraine’s counteroffensive has so far failed to make significant gains, and Russia is continuing to try and push forward in the eastern city Avdiivka.
