We will explain how to replace the battery on your Savi 8200 headset, this includes UC and Office families. Your battery has to be replaced every 3 years or 300 cycles, whatever comes first to get the best performance of your headset and avoid power downs in middle of calls.

A. Savi 8210 UC and Savi 8210 Office. On this particular model, the battery would be located on the side with only paddling of the headset, not on the speaker side.

First. We remove the paddling of the headset; this part is easy to take off by using a little of pressure as its designed to be removed.

Second, using the included removal tool that comes with the replacement battery we are going to take out both screws on the cover.

Third, with the gate off from the headset take the old battery out and unplug it from the headset.

Next, we install the new battery by plugging it first, then putting the battery inside the headset, following to place the gate with its designed screws and placing the paddling back in place.

B. Savi 8220 UC and Savi 8220 Office. On this model, the battery is located on the opposite speaker from the boom arm. A lot of time people can get confused as the mic boom arm has the call controls and it’s the designated side for charging.

First, we are going to turn the cover of the battery counter clockwise using your fingers only. Don’t use any tool or screw driver to try to open it, as it’s a common mistake that can cause this cover to break and no longer fit on your headset.

Second, using the included tool with your replacement battery, we are taking the tiny screws from the battery gate.

Following, we remove the battery from the headset and we unplug the battery from the connector.

 

Next, we install the new battery by plugging it first, then putting the battery inside the headset, following to place the gate with its designed screws and placing the cover back in place.

Important note: Make sure to order the proper battery for the headset as even if both headsets (8210 and 8220) share most of components, their batteries have different shapes and don’t fit on the other one.

When it comes to finding the ideal pair of headphones, it’s important to navigate the sea of specifications. Among the most critical are headphone sensitivity and impedance. Portable devices usually have limited power output, and using headphones with lower sensitivity levels may result in disappointingly low volume levels, making it challenging to enjoy music while on the move.

Understanding Impedance

Impedance, on the other hand, is a measure of a headphone’s driver resistance to an AC signal and is expressed in ohms (Ω). Impedance can range from 16 to 600Ω or even higher. Headphones with lower impedance levels, typically falling between 16 to 32Ω, are easy to drive with portable devices like smartphones and music players. They don’t demand significant power to produce decent volume levels, making them a popular choice for on-the-go consumers.

In contrast, high-impedance headphones, starting at 100Ω or higher, require more power to drive effectively and may not work well with portable devices alone. In such instances, users may need to employ a headphone amplifier to power the headphones, potentially adding bulk to their setup and increasing costs. However, high-impedance headphones often provide superior sound quality due to their design, making them an ideal match for high-end audio equipment such as DACs and headphone amplifiers.

Finding the Right Balance

Selecting the right headphones involves striking a balance between sensitivity and impedance. Headphones with higher sensitivity levels are ideal for use with portable devices, ensuring you can enjoy your music without struggling with low volumes. Meanwhile, those with higher impedance levels are better suited for high-end audio equipment setups, promising exceptional sound quality.

Today we will analyze an option available for training purposes with wireless headsets for softphones on a computer. As you are aware, the majority of the companies are moving from the physical desk phones into the softphone’s applications, such as RingCentral, 8X8, OneX among others and for the same reason they are being run in a computer, could be a Windows or Mac as well and thanks to this new technology the requirements for a desk phone is no longer used. But what if I need a wireless training headset setup to work now in my computer? Keep reading and will explain on how to achieve this goal. For this particular topic we decided to go with Jabra Engage headsets, however other brands such as Poly/Plantronics have something similar and with really close steps on how to make it work.

Jabra Engage 65 Mono Wireless Headset System or Jabra Engage 65 Stereo Wireless Headset System

Both of these models are fully compatible with each other one as they share the same base. This is very important and will discuss this further down the road for reference. There are a couple ways how to setup a Jabra Engage 65 Base to work as a training base for softphones for this to work, we need 2 full systems in order to keep the headsets fully charged and ready to be used and we will discuss both of the ways here:

Add headset to a conference call:

This is the simplest way to do it and by far my favorite as requires literally nothing out of ordinary to do.

1^st Undock the primary (Trainer) headset.

2^nd Dock the additional headset (Trainee) to the base. It will attempt to pair to the base.

3^rd A voice prompt will play in the primary (Trainer) headset. The user needs to press the CALL button on the primary headset to accept the additional headset in the conference. Now the audio will be shared between both headsets.

By default, the additional headset will be muted.

Add headset to a conference call without docking:

This takes some more steps with the same result; this is recommended if the office space doesn’t allow to have 2 people in one cubicle.

1^st Undock the primary (Trainer) headset.

2^nd Power down the additional (Trainee) headset by holding the CALL button for 4 seconds.

3^rd Hold on the base for 3 seconds. Then the Conference icon on the base will flash.

4^th Put the additional (Trainee) headset on pairing mode by holding the CALL button for 5 seconds until the status LED on the headset flashes blue.

5^th A voice prompt will play in the primary (Trainer) headset. The user needs to press the CALL button on the primary headset to accept the additional headset in the conference. Now the audio will be shared between both headsets.

By default, the additional headset will be muted.

Permanent conference mode: By default, the conference will end for the additional headset once the call ends, however the conference mode stays on as long as the primary headset does not gets docked into the base as this will end the mode. If you need to charge the headset you can do it using a micro-USB cable and keep charging either on your computer or with a power brick.

Jabra Engage 65 Convertible Wireless Headset

With the Jabra Engage Convertible headset will be following the same steps as with the other 2 siblings. One small detail that needs to be noted, is that in order to make a Convertible training setup, both headsets need to be Convertible style as the headsets are not compatible with the Mono or Stereo base and vice versa.

1^st Tap “Menu” on the base of the Engage 75 headset to open the settings menu, and navigate to Add headset.

2^nd Tap to switch to Pair without docking.

3^rd Tap “Accept” on the base to out the base in pairing mode.

4^th Power off the additional (trainee) headset by holding the CALL button for 4 seconds.

5^th Put the additional (Trainee) headset on pairing mode by holding the CALL button for 5 seconds until the status LED on the headset flashes blue.

6^th A voice prompt will play in the primary (Trainer) headset. The user needs to press the CALL button on the primary headset to accept the additional headset in the conference. Now the audio will be shared between both headsets.

By default, the additional headset will be muted.

Permanent conference mode: By default, the conference will end for the additional headset once the call ends, however the conference mode stays on as long as the primary headset does not gets docked into the base as this will end the mode. Jabra Engage 75 Convertible Wireless Headset System

With the Jabra Engage Convertible headset will be following the same steps as with the other 2 siblings. One small detail that needs to be noted, is that in order to make a Convertible training setup, both headsets need to be Convertible style as the headsets are not compatible with the Mono or Stereo base and vice versa.

Jabra Engage 55 Mono DECT USB-A Wireless Computer Headset, Teams or Jabra Engage 55 Stereo DECT USB-A Wireless PC Headset Teams or Jabra Engage 55 Convertible DECT USB-A Wireless Headset

Jabra Offers the Engage 55 headset family as a computer only headset and for the same reason in this case you can mix and match however wearing style the users like as these headsets require no base for the pairing, but the new Link 400 USB-A dongle which makes easier to create the conference mode. For this to work, we need only one of the Link 400 dongles plugged into the main computer, we know the full systems comes with each dongle but for this we will use only one.

1^st Make sure the Link 400 is plugged into the computer and the primary (trainer) headset is paired and working on the PC, best way to find out is by streaming something on the computer.

2^nd Make sure the additional (trainee) headset is off, then press and hold the CALL button for 4 seconds.

3^rd Press and hold the pairing button on the Jabra Link 400 for 1 second to pair with the headset.

4^th A voice prompt will play in the primary (Trainer) headset. The user needs to press the CALL button on the primary headset to accept the additional headset in the conference. Now the audio will be shared between both headsets.

Special mention: The Engage 55 as its easier to make the Conference mode, unfortunately doesn’t have a Permanent Conference mode. So every time the call ends the mode will be disconnected. Meaning you will need to the the steps again for every call. 

 

This particular topic applies for Poly/Plantronics headsets being used in computers with soft phone applications such as 8X8, RingCentral, Avaya One X, among others.

As in modern times and now a majority of associates working remotely, the convenience of having a soft phone that runs on the computer, makes it easier and more convenient to the end user to use their wireless headsets for work. But what happens if they need to walk away from the computer and need to know if a call is coming if they can’t have the headset on all day? We will show how to enable this feature on some Poly/Plantronics wireless headsets in 2 scenarios.

A. Using a Savi Office or a Voyager Office wireless headset.

In this case, you have either your Savi or Voyager office connected to your computer by the USB cord. Your base can “ring” when a call comes in and even if you want to, you can customize the sound as well! For this to happen need to follow the next steps.

• Make sure your Savi/Voyager Office base is connected to your computer and the computer recognize it as a sound device (fastest way to know is going to the little icon with a speaker in the lower right corner of your Windows PC, make right click and you can see the legend “Savi Office Case” or “Poly Voyager Base”.

• Using the Poly Lens, go to the Settings Tab (3^rd Tab), scroll a little down and open “Ringtones and Volume” Under either Savi Base or Voyager Base.
• Turn on the PC Volume by selecting Low Volume or High Volume, if you are planning to roam away without your headset on the head, I’ll advise to go High Volume, that way you can hear when a call comes in.

• Congratulations! Now your base works as a ringer and when a call comes in your computer, you will be able to know your phone is ringing without having your headset on, pretty useful if you are planning to take a snack or drink water so your headset is not in the middle of the way. You can customize the sound coming the base, if want to, just select one of the 3 sounds available on the PC tab.
• If you want to turn of this feature, simply turn off the ringer by selecting “Off” from the Computer Volume and you can check that your Desk phone Volume is off if you have a physical desk phone.

 

B. Using A Savi or a Voyager UC headset with Dongle.

Ok, here is where we need a little more that single steps as in this case this kind of headsets, they don’t have a base as on the previous scenario. This doesn’t mean that the user has to keep the headset on all of the time or close to the monitor to know a call is coming. For this we will need to make sure the following:

• Make sure that your computer has external speakers or if not that at least your monitor has built in speakers. Some desktop computers still have the separate monitors and they way to know this is by checking if they are plugged in on the back by one of the 3.5mm jacks or you can see if the monitor has built in speakers by checking the back of it or the bottom.
• A way to know if they are plugged in is by left clicking the speaker Icon on the lower right side of your Windows PC, and then click Open Sound Settings. 
• This will open a new tab, under Output Device, open the options tab, if the speakers are plugged in, you will see besides your headset your speakers by default you will see something like “Real Digital Output”, if you see this option available means that there are there.
• Now we are going to your soft phone settings, we will use 8 X 8 on this scenario, must of the UC applications have this feature in their settings. Go to Incoming call and you can see that you have 2 ring sources, your primary (headset), and a secondary (off).
• On the secondary source open the tab and select “Real Digital Output”.
• Congratulations! You had enabled your ringer on the computer, so every time the phone rings in your soft phone application now you will be able to hear your ringer thru the speakers of the computer. You can adjust the volume at will under the Ring Volume tab.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to disable the Going to Sleep function on your desk top for this to work properly, as the computer is feeding either the Voyager/Savi Base or the speakers of the computer. If the PC goes to sleep it will turn off automatically all the ringers, coming from the speakers or the base or the headset by itself.

Perhaps you had heard about Telecoil and had wondered, what is it and how it works and what are the benefits of this feature. First we will start with basics, this feature is mainly designed for people with Hearing Aids and a telecoil, or know as t-coil is a small copper wire that is built into the hearing aid. This tiny wire function is to pick up the signals from the called a loop system, and this system what does it’s to amplify the audio in public areas, so hearing aid users can listen the environment or announcements. The most common examples of places with this feature will be airports, movie theaters or even on place of worship and can be easily noted with the symbol that we have before.

The best person to tell you if you need Telecoil would be your hearing aid provider as they are the most knowledgably people to talk about this as is not just if you want it out of the blue, however they will give you the benefits of this, which makes a lot of sense to get it as it helps like in the next scenarios:

Helps to people with severe or progressive hearing loss to be aware of surroundings in public places or even the use of the phone.

If a person with hearing loss works in specific places such as courtrooms, or entertainment venues and they are constantly on the phone.

Depending on the model of the hearing aids some of them have the telecoil feature on all the time so no need to deal with settings, another ones they have the the on/off setting for this setting. This switch is commonly called the T-switch. Telecoil is not going to be found in all hearing aids, the smaller the device is the most likely will not have that feature due to the small size of it, for example the completely-in-canal and the invisible-in-canal devices will not have Telecoil and mainly will be based on microphones for its use.

What is a Headset?

Office Telephone Secure Communication using Push-to-Talk Headset or Handset
