Ex GOP Advisor Says Republicans Should Be Able to Disavow Trump’s McConnell Threat

    [ad_1]

    • Conservative pundit Scott Jennings said Trump had sent “assassination instructions” about McConnell.
    • Jennings said “every Republican ought to be able to say” that Trump’s post was “beyond the pale.”
    • “This is bad for the party,” Jennings said.

Conservative pundit Scott Jennings said “every Republican” should be able to disavow former President Donald Trump’s “assassination instructions” against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Jennings, a former GOP advisor and McConnell aide, was referring to a Truth Social post from October 1, in which Trump escalated his long-standing feud with the Kentucky senator. Trump accused McConnell of opposing him because he has a “death wish.” Trump also leveled a racially charged insult at McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, the transportation secretary for the Trump administration, calling her McConnell’s “China loving wife, Coco Chow.”

Trump’s salvo came after McConnell voiced support for changing the way Congress counts electoral votes.

In an appearance on CNN on Sunday, Jennings said Trump’s post contained “assassination instructions” directed at McConnell and “blatant racism” against Chao.

“I mean, if you read that whole thing out loud, if you were on the street, and you heard someone muttering that on a street corner, you wouldn’t say, ‘Hmm, let’s hand this person the presidency or the Republican nomination for president,’” Jennings said. “You would say, ‘Call 911.’ Because it sounds like an unhinged, deranged person has gotten loose and is out on the street and may be a danger to themselves and others.”

He added that the insults against McConnell were “beyond the pale” and that “every Republican ought to be able to say so.”

“This is not good for the party. It’s not good for him,” Jennings said, referring to Trump.

Jennings also weighed in on Sen. Rick Scott’s hesitation to condemn Trump for writing the post, saying Scott was likely “unprepared” for the question. During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, host Dana Bash asked Scott if Trump’s comments were acceptable — to which Scott said it is “never, ever okay to be a racist,” but stopped short of slamming Trump.

“But there’s something very easy about this. And what’s easy is to say: ‘This is not good. It’s not helpful. It’s not good politically. It’s not good personally. This is bad for the party, bad for the country,’” Jennings said. “And it’s not becoming of a former president and somebody who wants to have the job again.”

Representatives for McConnell and a spokesman at Trump’s post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

  • Cleansers 101: How Often Should You Wash Your Face?

Cleansers 101: How Often Should You Wash Your Face?

    [ad_1]

A facial cleanser should be an integral part of your daily skin care routine. Cleansers help remove dead skin cells, dirt and unwanted debris from your complexion. Clearing the skin helps us avoid harmful bacteria-building or breakouts caused by dirt becoming trapped in your pores. But sometimes we can get a little too passionate about our skin care routine and actually over-cleanse, causing damage to our skin barrier while overstripping moisture. So, how often should you wash your face? And which types of cleanser should you use? Read on to find out.

Benefits Of Cleansing | Types Of Facial Cleansers | How Often Should You Wash Your Face? | How To Cleanse Properly

Benefits Of Using A Facial Cleanser

With today’s long-wearing makeup and exposure to environmental stressors and pollution, it’s necessary to take the time to fully cleanse your skin at the end of the day. In addition to removing makeup and impurities, cleansing also helps prepare your skin to better absorb the active ingredients in toners, masks, serums, moisturizers and oils. Eminence Organic Skin Care’s lineup of cleansers allows for this routine to fit for a variety of skin types. Here are some of the main benefits of facial cleansers:

    Removing Build Up

Removing all the grime, oil and makeup that was built up throughout the day is essential for healthy-looking skin. The skin on your face is continually exposed to pollution, dirt, bacteria and is also subject to a buildup of skin cells. We recommend cleansing daily to target all these factors while keeping your skin clean and fresh. Failing to wash your face means your skin undergoes prolonged exposure to a layer of sweat, dirt and grime which you would then layer on other products on top of. This traps debris into your pores. If your pores are filled with oil, bacteria or dirt, then you’re far more likely to develop breakouts.

Allowing Sebum Oil To Reach The Surface

Sebum is the waxy, oily secretion produced by tiny sebaceous glands under your skin. These glands use hair follicles to let oil reach the surface of the skin, keeping your hair and skin moisturized. Sebum is crucial for keeping the skin hydrated and protected from bacteria and fungi. Regular cleansing clears away blockages and buildup, allowing the sebum to reach the surface, which reduces your chance of breaking out.

    Maintaining Hydration

Cleansing helps manage pH levels of the skin, keeping skin hydrated and balanced. Particularly if you use a hydrating cleanser, your skin will maintain the proper level of hydration so that you avoid developing dry skin.

    Stone Crop Cleansing Oil

    Types of Facial Cleansers

    Gel Cleansers

Like the name implies, gel cleaners tend to have a gel-like consistency, designed for unclogging pores while removing excess oil and acne-causing bacteria from the surface of your skin. As a result, gel cleansers are ideal for oily skin types. Gel cleansers would be ideal for those wanting to remove excess oil and minimize the appearance of pores by keeping the skin free of gunk.

    Cream Cleansers

Cleansers with a cream base deeply nourish and moisturize the skin while washing away makeup and other impurities. Cream cleansers are ideal for dry skin or sensitive skin types because they rehydrate the skin while also removing unwanted buildup from the previous day, such as dirt, sebum or makeup. Cream cleansers are a typically thicker texture and cleanse your skin without stripping it of any of its natural oils.

    Foam Cleansers

These lightweight skin care products create a foamy lather when dispensed from a pump package. They remove excess oil as effectively as gel cleansers and are great for combination skin. Avoid foam cleansers if you have dry skin as the consistency will leave your skin feeling tight and dry.

    Cleansing Oil

Cleansing oils provide an easy removal of all oil-based products, such as makeup and sunscreen, while also keeping your skin smooth and silky. Oils are a special type of solvent that are naturally attracted to other oils, which allows for quick dissolving of oil-based products.

    Exfoliating Cleanser

An exfoliating cleanser can be in the form of a physical or chemical exfoliating cleanser. A chemical exfoliating cleanser simultaneously cleanses and gently exfoliates the skin because its formula contains a small percentage of an acid. A physical exfoliating cleanser may contain tiny granules also designed to slough off dead skin cells while providing a cleanse at the same time.

Now that you’ve decided on the best type of cleanser for you, how many times should you actually cleanse and wash your face each day?

How Often Should You Wash Your Face?

According to Healthline.com, “Every person should wash their face both morning and night.” If you can only commit to a wash once daily, do it before you go to bedtime, so you’re not putting your face on the pillow and trapping the dirt and oil deeper into the skin. Some people with dry skin don’t like cleansing twice a day as it feels too drying for their skin. If that’s the case, re-consider the type of cleanser you are using or you can simply cleanse once before bedtime.

Overcleansing (three or more times a day), or using a harsh cleanser such as a bar of soap, may weaken the skin barrier, leading to dry, dull or irritated skin. Cleansing should never lead to irritation, so if your skin is starting to feel tight and dry after washing, you may be going overboard. A healthy, functioning skin barrier means the skin looks firm and plump. The skin barrier should block environmental irritants out naturally, while keeping all the good stuff in like natural oils, and moisture.

    How To Cleanse Properly

According to the Academy Of Dermatology, here are the best tips and steps for cleansing correctly.

    • Apply lukewarm water to your face. Then apply your cleanser, gently rubbing it in with your fingertips. Using a washcloth, sponge, or anything other than your fingertips can lead to irritation.
    • Refrain from scrubbing with something other than a specially formulated physical exfoliant. This can cause redness and irritation.
    • Rinse the cleanser off with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
    • Apply moisturizer, especially if you have dry or itchy skin.
    • Limit washing to twice a day maximum, although if you have sweated profusely you can also wash your face afterwards.
    • Wash your face once in the morning and once in the evening, as well as after profusely sweating.
    • Follow the instructions of the cleanser. The cleanser brand will also provide how best to use their cleansers.

  • Is a Donut Bed Right for Your Dog? – Dogster

Is a Donut Bed Right for Your Dog? – Dogster

    [ad_1]

Dogs are natural denning creatures, and donut beds are great for dogs to feel cozy and secure while sleeping. A dog donut bed has a circular shape specifically designed to accommodate a dog’s natural inclinations to nest and burrow.

Donut dog beds are especially great for:

    • dogs who have anxiety
    • dogs who feel cold
    • brachycephalic dog breeds (snub-nosed breeds)
    • senior dogs
    • dogs with mobility or joint issues

Calming dog donut beds provide a safe place for dogs who tend to sleep curled up — a dog’s “fetal position.” Its circular shape and raised sides surround your dog and can help him feel protected. This works well for dogs suffering from anxiety and nervousness. Its pocket also acts as a noise reduction, blocking out noises that might otherwise stress your dog out.

Got a dog that’s cold? Most donut beds will be made of faux fur designed to mimic fur coats. This is extra helpful for dogs who love to snuggle up against furry things. It’s also beneficial to dogs who live in colder climates or experience harsh winters by providing extra warmth. Dogs may have fur coats, but they still get cold like the rest of us. The donut shape provides a pocket perfect for dogs who like to burrow under blankets.

These beds are great for brachycephalic dog breeds because the raised rim is not only snuggly but supports the head and neck of your dog. It encourages snub-nosed dogs to stretch their necks and lift their head for better breathing.

Orthopedic donut dog beds are good for senior dogs or dogs with mobility or joint issues. The padding is denser providing better support, and the bolsters will have a little extra padding for comfort. Dr. TJ Bowe of North Colony Animal Clinic in Texas, says orthopedic beds can be great for dogs with arthritis.

No matter the size of your pup, you can find a small, extra small, medium, large or giant donut dog bed perfect for him. The donut bed you choose needs to be made of pet-safe materials with easy-to-clean or removable covers. Look for one with a water-resistant bottom to avoid soaking up any accidents. Putin Allies Bash Russia Military Leaders’ Retreat From Ukraine City

    [ad_1]

    • Russian troops retreated from Lyman, a Ukrainian city in the Donetsk region, on Friday.
    • The retreat came one day after Putin claimed the region was part of Russia.
    • Powerful allies to Putin said Russian military leaders should be punished over the retreat.

Powerful supporters of Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the military’s retreat from a city in Ukraine on Saturday, one day after the president claimed to have annexed the region.

Putin on Friday signed decrees claiming four regions in Ukraine were now part of Russia in a move that was widely rejected by the West as illegal and invalid. However a day later, Ukrainian troops entered the city of Lyman, forcing Russian troops to retreat from an area Putin just declared part of Russia. Lyman is located in the Donetsk region, which Putin claimed to annex.

In a post on Telegram, Ramzan Kadyrov — leader of Chechnya and an ally of Putin’s — said Russian military leadership had “covered for” an “incompetent” general that should be “sent to the front to wash his shame off with blood,” according to The New York Times translation.

Another prominent supporter and close confidant of Putin, oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, echoed those sentiments in a statement. Referring to Russia’s military generals, he said, “Send all these pieces of garbage barefoot with machine guns straight to the front,” The Times reported.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei K. Shoigu has come under fire recently and been accused of military failings, especially after Ukraine’s successful counteroffensives in September. Following Ukraine’s advances, Putin escalated the war by mobilizing troops, which also prompted complaints and even protests in Russia.

Putin also appears to be on uncertain ground with key international partners, including China and India. In a United Nations Security Council vote to condemn Putin’s “illegal” annexation of Ukraine on Friday, both countries abstained from voting.

Russia was the sole veto vote.

  • What Is Clean Beauty Vs Organic?

What Is Clean Beauty Vs Organic?

    [ad_1]

With information at our fingertips, consumers are making more knowledgeable purchase decisions when it comes to what they’re putting on their skin. The demand for clean beauty products and clean ingredients are on the rise as consumers learn how to decipher labels, checking for irritating ingredients like SLSs or propylene glycol. Many companies claim to offer “clean beauty” or “organic” but what do these terms actually mean? Let’s dig deeper to find out what clean beauty is, the difference between clean beauty and organic skin care and what beauty products are safe to apply.

What Is Clean Beauty vs Organic?

“Clean beauty” is a phrase in the beauty industry meaning products that are free from toxic ingredients, synthetic chemicals and any ingredients that could irritate your skin. Ingredients include parabens, sodium lauryl sulphates (SLSs) or phthalates. Clean beauty can also refer to companies that take the environment’s wellbeing into consideration during the development, manufacturing and selling of their products. However, the definition can become a little complicated in that there is no governing body to regulate whether a company is allowed to put that label on their packaging. Neither does it indicate a set list of ingredients that you can and cannot use. It’s best to think of clean beauty as a movement of sorts starting from a desire to become mindful about what we put on our skin. Clean beauty consumers are also interested in their health and well-being and in supporting green and cruelty-free brands.

In comparison, if you see products with “organic” on the label, you know this is a regulated term. Of all the beauty industry terms, “organic” is the most regulated term by the FDA under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. “Organic” refers to products that are made using ingredients grown using organic farming methods that refrain from using synthetic fertilizers, artificial fertilizers and pesticides. These ingredients are certified organic.

How To Choose Clean Beauty And Organic Beauty Products

By supporting brands labelled as clean or organic, you’re encouraging businesses to manufacture safe, effective products that are made with the environment in mind. When deciding which skin care to purchase, we recommend reading all the ingredients to the best of your ability. Also patch test new beauty products before applying them to your whole face to see if you have a reaction.

  • Your Guide to Understanding Butcher Block Countertops

Your Guide to Understanding Butcher Block Countertops

    [ad_1]

Butcher block countertops have become a popular countertop option in kitchen styles of all different kinds.

    Butcher block countertopView in gallery

The unique makeup of butcher block countertops creates a warm and homey look, but this doesn’t mean that these are a good choice for everyone.

Butcher block countertops have amazing qualities, but they also have some drawbacks. According to home guru, Martha Stewart, butcher block countertops require regular maintenance from each month to every day. This helps butcher block countertops stay conditioned and maintain their texture and color. Otherwise, they will dull and crack. Is the beauty of butcher block counters worth this level of maintenance to you? For some people, the answer is a resounding “yes”! For others, maybe not.

    What are Butcher Block Countertops?

    What are Butcher Block Countertops
    Tom Meaney Architect, AIA

Butcher block countertops are individual pieces of wood that are bound together to form one large surface. Butcher block countertops are made from different species of wood. Close-grained woods are ideal for countertops making cherry, walnut, and maple popular choices. Hard rock maple is one of the most popular because while it has a tight grain, it is less expensive than cherry or walnut. There are also butcher block countertops made from oak, bamboo, and exotic woods like iroko and zebrawood.

The individual pieces of wood are joined in a couple of different ways. There are edge-grained countertops that have longer horizontal pieces finger-joined together. There is also end-grain construction which uses short vertical pieces joined together. The end result resembles a tone-on-tone checkerboard.

    Cost for Butcher Block Countertops

    Cost for Butcher Block Countertops
    EKA Build

The price of butcher block countertops varies by species of wood, the thickness of the countertop, and overall quality. You can expect to pay anywhere from $50-$300 per square foot to purchase and to install your countertops. Butcher block counters are a popular DIY option. For those people, you are looking at just around $50-$100 per square foot to purchase a DIY butcher block countertop.

How to Care for Butcher Block Countertops

The care and maintenance of wood counters like butcher block is regular but it is not extensive. Most steps are common sense that you would apply to other types of countertops.

    Choose the Right Finish

When your butcher block countertops have been installed, you need to decide on the best finish option. There are several that you can choose and each requires a different level of maintenance.

    • Natural Finish – If you intend to prepare food right on your countertops, you need to use a finish that is food-safe. Natural finishes like mineral oil, tung oil, and beeswax are good options for this. These have a beautiful look when you first apply them, but they will wear away in short order. If you like the look of the natural finishes but don’t want the constant maintenance, consider a hardened tung oil and resin product like Waterlox or Watco Butcher Block Oil and Finish. These will keep your countertops looking good for a longer time.
    • Stain – Decide if you want to change the color of the countertops. If you do, you need to apply a stain. Choose either a water-based or oil-based stain formula.
    • Polyurethane – Polyurethane is a clear coat that you can apply to your countertops. This is not the best if you plan on preparing food on your countertops and it is not food safe. It is also susceptible to cracks and scratches.

    Keep Them Clean

In order to prevent large-scale damage to your countertops, clean them on a regular basis each day.

    • Clean up any spills as they happen as they can cause stains on your countertops.
    • Scrape up any food residue being careful not to allow the instrument to nick the countertops.
    • Scrub the countertops with a scrub brush using mild soap and hot water. Rinse the countertops with some water and a soft cloth.
    • Once each week, sanitize your countertops with white vinegar. Spray undiluted vinegar on the countertops. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then wipe away.
    • Dry the countertops.

    Maintain Your Butcher Block Countertops

Butcher block countertops need to be maintained on a regular basis.

    • If you have a natural finish like mineral oil or beeswax on your countertops, you need to reapply these finishes. Be prepared to reapply finishes every 4-6 weeks to keep your countertops protected and conditioned.
    • Prevent damage to your countertops by not putting scalding pots or dishes on your butcher block kitchen countertops.
    • Use cutting boards to prevent cuts and scratches on your countertops.
    • Remove stains on your butcher block countertops with lemon juice, one cup of water and a tsp or hydrogen peroxide. Rub this solution on the stain with a damp cloth and then wipe dry. You can also try rubbing the stain with lemon and salt.
    • If your butcher block countertops become damaged because of scorches, stains, or scratches, you can sand them down. Take 220 grit sandpaper, sand down the damaged areas. Clean them and then reapply your finishing coat.
    • Avoid cleaners that contain bleach or harsh chemical cleaners. Do not use scouring pads with stiff bristles as they may damage the finish. Some fabricators also warm against using products like Murphy’s Oil Soap as they leave a residue on the wood.

Butcher Block Countertops: Pros and Cons

Butcher Block Countertops: Pros and Cons
    A.Jennison Interiors

There are reasons that there are such different opinions on butcher block countertops. Consider these pros and cons to decide on which side of the argument you fall.

    Pros

    • Cost – Butcher block countertops cost much less than other natural varieties of countertops like marble and granite. Yet, they still have the look of quality.
    • Versatility – Butcher block counter tops work with every style kitchen from modern to traditional. They also look amazing mixed with other countertop varieties.
    • Look and Texture – No other countertop will match the lovely tones and warm texture of butcher block countertops.
    • Longevity – With proper care, butcher block countertops will last for around 20 years.
    • Ability to Refinish – Unlike synthetic countertops, it is easy to sand down and refinish butcher block countertops if they develop damage over time.
    • Breakages – Wood is a soft surface compared to stone countertops. If you drop items on butcher block counters, they may not break.
    • Installation – Butcher block countertops are easy for DIYers to install.

    Cons

    • Cost – Butcher block countertops cost more than some countertop surfaces like laminate.
    • Non-resistance – Wood is not as resistant as stone to heat and scratches.
    • Maintenance – Wood countertops require some level of regular care and maintenance. You cannot install these countertops and then forget about them.
    • Dust and Grime – Dust and grime do not disappear on butcher block countertops like they do on variegated surfaces like granite or quartz.

China, India Abstain on Condemning Russia’s Annexation of Ukraine Land

    [ad_1]

    • China and India, key partners to Russia, have recently expressed concerns to Putin about the war.
    • Putin on Friday declared four regions of Ukraine part of Russia, a move rejected by the West.
    • In a UN vote condemning the annexation as illegal, China and India both abstained.

China and India on Friday abstained from voting on a United Nations resolution condemning Russia for claiming it had annexed parts of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier on Friday signed decrees claiming four regions in Ukraine were now part of Russia, a move that was widely rejected by the West as an illegal annexation.

The UN’s 15-member Security Council held a vote on a resolution declaring Putin’s actions illegal and invalid and recognizing the regions are still part of Ukraine, not Russia.

The resolution passed in a 10-1 vote, with Russia being the sole veto vote, the Associated Press reported. China, India, Brazil, and Gabon abstained.

China and India have been powerful partners of Russia during the war, declining to institute sanctions as the West has done. But the UN vote came only weeks after Putin acknowledged his counterparts in both countries expressed concerns about the war.

During a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Uzbekistan on September 15, Putin acknowledged Xi had “questions and concerns” regarding the war. The following day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the war during a face-to-face meeting with Putin.

“I know that today’s era is not an era of war, and I have spoken to you on the phone about this,” Modi told Putin, Reuters reported.

Putin responded: “I know about your position on the conflict in Ukraine, and I know about your concerns. We want all of this to end as soon as possible.”

One expert previously told Insider that pressure from Xi and Modi — and a fear of losing them as partners — may have partly motivated Putin’s recent escalation of the war by mobilizing troops and threatening nuclear action.

“The evidence of criticism of allies like China or neutral states like India clearly put more pressure on him,” Robert English, a professor at the University of Southern California who studies Russia, the Soviet Union, and Eastern Europe, told Insider.

COSMOSS by Kate Moss – Caroline Hirons

    [ad_1]

‘Cosmoss’, the lifestyle brand by Kate Moss, launched to predictable fawning from the fashion world earlier this month.

What the brand says: (strap yourselves in)

This is literally ‘The Story’ on the website. ‘Soulful, sensual, self-aware. COSMOSS draws on the extraordinary life experience of Kate Moss — someone whose career and image has touched on and influenced so many others and yet has taken her own, rich journey of transformation gradually and privately.

COSMOSS is a celebration of every day exactly as it is, with all its imperfections. Each product has been meticulously crafted with wellbeing in mind, using potent, natural substances. Each ritual opens a door to balance, restoration, and love; each fragrance and infusion recentres and completes.

COSMOSS is self-care created for life’s modern journeys to make them beautiful, mesmerising and magical.’

    What you need to know:
This did not make my journey feel mesmerising or magical.

    Who is it for?
People who worship at the altar of Kate Moss, have no problems with their skin, and have money.

    You need this if..
You do not need this. By all means, buy it if you want it, but you do not need it.

    You don’t need this if..
    You are serious about skincare.

    Face Cleanser, 100ml – £52.00
    They say:
‘Rich and luxurious, our Cleanser gently removes impurities and makeup without stripping the skin’s natural protective barrier. Moss extract hydrates and enhances the firmness and elasticity of the skin. Mildly scented for a complete sensorial experience, the formula rinses off easily, leaving skin soft, refreshed and nourished.’

    CH says:
Firstly, this is not ‘mildly scented’. It is one of the most highly fragranced products to be released in recent times. A cleanser is obviously limited in what it can do, and there is nothing in this ingredient list to suggest that this cleanser will ‘enhance the firmness and elasticity’ of your skin.

    Key Ingredients
    Moss extract
    Cannabidiol
    Bakuchiol
    Rosehip Oil
    Nettle Extract

    INCI
Aqua/Water/Eau, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Glyceryl Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Propanediol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum (Fragrance), Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Sodium Chloride, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Gluconate, Sodium Metabisulfite, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Seed Oil, Polypodium Vulgare Rhizome (Common Polypody) Extract, Dehydroacetic Acid, Cetraria Islandica (Iceland Moss) Thallus Extract, Sphagnum Magellanicum (Peat Moss) Extract, Rosa Moschata (Musk Rose) Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Bakuchiol, Glycerin, Olive Oil Polyglyceryl-6 Esters, Citric Acid, Polyglyceryl-6 Laurate, Cannabidiol, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract, Magnolol, Honokiol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Limonene.

    Face Cream, 50ml – £95.00
    They say:
‘Rich, nourishing, moisturising: introducing the revolutionary Face Cream, which rejuvenates the skin and stimulates natural collagen production. It absorbs quickly and deeply into the skin, dramatically decreasing the dulling effects of oxidative stress for a healthy glow. High in antioxidants, this anti-ageing moisturiser reduces wrinkles and fine lines to help achieve plump, well-rested skin.’

    CH says:
There is nothing revolutionary about this moisturiser. And the claims are designed to give the impression that it will do far more for your skin that it is scientifically capable of, and it is fragranced to the max.
‘Moss extract complex combines three wild Icelandic plants (lichen, moss and fern) that nourish and hydrate the skin, restoring smoothness, firmness and elasticity. It is an effective anti-ageing moisturiser designed to soothe irritated, sensitive skin. Studies have shown the extract can rejuvenate the skin by 20 years in four weeks.’
Studies on an extract have no bearing on the final formula used as the product. In fairness to Cosmoss, a lot of brands make these claims. Doesn’t make it ok. However, if you do find that you look 20 years younger after using this cream for four weeks, be sure to let me know. Love that for you.
‘Cannabidiol interacts with receptors in the nervous system to help you regain balance. Used on the skin, it is known for its soothing and sebum-regulating properties.’
This is intentionally worded to put the CBD association in your mind, but used topically, CBD will not interact with your nervous system in any way, and it is totally irresponsible to speak of it in this fashion.

    Key Ingredients
    Moss Extract Complex
    Cannabidiol
    Bakuchiol
Hemp Oil, Rosehip Oil, Shea Butter and Avocado Oil
    Nettle Extract
    Niacinamide
    Vitamin E
    Burdock Root Extract

    INCI

    Golden Nectar CBD & Collagen Oil, 30ml – £105.00
    They say:
The Golden Nectar is the ultimate antioxidant oil, bringing a holistic approach to your everyday skin care. It kickstarts the natural process of skin rejuvenation, supporting deep regeneration to soothe irritated skin and leave it softer and plumper to the touch. It is an everyday indulgence that takes care of your skin, body, mind and soul.’

    CH says:
The oil is the better sku in the range. Mainly because it’s unscented, doesn’t give me a headache, and feels calming on the skin. It does give a glow, but that’s to be expected of any oil. Alas, yet again with the claims..

‘Cannabidiol (1000 mg) interacts with receptors in the nervous system to help you regain balance. Used on the skin, it is known for its soothing and sebum-regulating properties.’ Repeat ad nauseam..
As previously mentioned, what it does when you ingest it has nothing to do with how it reacts on your face. With that said, Kate Moss ingests this in this video: Vogue/Cosmoss

Her website says this: ‘The product is not medicinal device.’ – That’s no typo. That’s what it says. I’m none the wiser.

‘Mythical Tears of Chios is a resin obtained from the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus), native to the Greek island of Chios which stimulates natural collagen production. It reactivates cells and detoxifies the skin, so it appears younger, plumper and firmer.’

‘Reactivates cells’. Does it perform CPR? Depending on where you read about this product, it either detoxifies, reactivates your cells, stimulates your collagen, works as an antioxidant, controls your sebum and/or makes you a brew.

    Key Ingredients
    Cannabidiol (1000mg)
Mythical tears of chios (also known as mastic gum)
    Rosemary extract
    Chia seed

    INCI
Caprylic/Capric (Coconut) Triglyceride, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Seed Oil, Cannabidiol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Salvia Hispanica (Chia) Seed Extract, Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum.

*Also: the website inci list (as listed above) omits the word ‘alcohol’ from the oil description. The actual inci of the product is below.

    Sacred Mist, 100ml – £120.00
Just to be clear, this is a perfume, not a facial mist. It is very masculine, and very strong. The packaging is beautiful.

    And the teas are rank.

    Final thoughts:

I will always defend anyone’s rights to make whatever they like, and charge whatever they like for it. Making a range is not the problem. And skincare is clearly in fashion with celebs. It’s this year’s tequila. The cost is not the problem. Fill your boots.

The claims, marketing and apparent complete lack of a regulatory and compliance officer overseeing these projects is what I find perplexing/annoying/irritating. The frivolous ‘not taking our industry seriously’ is where my problem really lies. We are an industry full of trained, qualified and quantified experts with proven track records that already have to fight against the misogyny clearly displayed not only in our government, but the media. Feel free to join us, by all means. But you need to meet us high up at our level, not invent your own ‘whimsical’ one that fuels the distrust and disregard for something that we all love so dearly.

And I repeat: Just because you can make a skincare line, doesn’t always mean you should.

It’s in Harrods. Knock yourself out.
