This particular model is considered the entry level for a wireless headset for your desk phone, with a convertible wearing style, allowing the user to wear it over the head or over the ear and with the lightest weight on the market.

On the next step up, we have the Savi 7210 with an over the head wearing style headband, with bigger ear cup and with a range of up to 400 feet on line of sight. Do I need an amplifier (Plantronics M22) for my phone? Most telephones do not provide adequate power for a headset.  A headset amplifier will provide additional power for the headset via batteries or an AC adapter.  Amplifiers also offer volume (incoming and outgoing) and mute controls.

Although most telephones require an amplifier, some do not. Plantronics M22  and Plantronics Poly MDA524 headset Amplifier connects Plantronics H-Series headsets to just about any single or multi-line “office” type phone and offer ergonomically designed volume, headset/handset, and mute controls. Connects Plantronics headsets to most single or multi-line telephones.

The MDA524 allows to use a corded headset from Poly with a desk phone and a computer and it supports remote answer EHS adapters or HL10 mechanical lifter from Plantronics. The MDA524 has 2 volume controls so the user can modulate the audio coming from the desk phone and from the computer independently. Power comes from the USB port of the computer and this kind of amplifier allows to record calls when using it with the computer. The MDA Amplifier allows the user to merge calls from different devices (desk phone and computer) together, in order to activate this feature the user has to press and hold the PC and desk phone buttons for 2 seconds while on active call and this will merge them in a conference mode.

Plantronics M22 Installation instructions – The line cord coming out of the wall stays in your telephone. The hand receiver cable is the only cable to be removed from your telephone. Unplug the Hand receiver from the base of the telephone and connect it to the back of the Plantronics Vista M22, where it shows a picture of just a hand receiver. Then the short cable that came with the Plantronics Vista M22 gets plugged into the back of the Vista M22 where it shows a picture of a full telephone and the other end plugs into where the hand receiver used to be.

Battery location
The battery compartments of the Plantronics Vista M22 amplifier is located on the left side of the units. Both have a U shaped door. To remove this battery door, simply apply pressure while pushing down. The door will slide off of the amplifier. see picture below:

Plantronics M22 Specifications:

The Plantronics Poly MDA526 is a Digital amplifier that works with any of the “D” Digital EncorePro headsets from Poly (Plantronics). The type of corded headsets are designed for mayor deployments and for the same reason they have a different QD than the regular QD headsets from the non “D” headsets. These kind of headsets have a 6-pin instead of the regular 4-pin QD and they are designed for inventory management using the Plantronics Manager Pro software as it monitors the usage of the headset and supervise the call quality when on use.

 

Bothe the MDA524 and MDA526 amplifiers work as a Plantronics bottom cable for desk phones. Both models share the same configuration and take the place of respectively cables, the following chart guide in reference of each position:

Both MDA 524 and MDA 526 don’t use regular batteries and are powered by the USB port of the computer. If no available USB port, you will need the Plantronics Universal AC/DC Wall Adapter MDA220 Savi 8210 8220 to power it up.

For Volume adjustment, use the dials located on the bottom of the MDA 524 or MDA 526, for best volume both dials need to get situated on number 2 for the master volume and master microphone and then the volume adjustment can be done from the front of the MDA amplifier.

Poly offers the second generation of its Focus line up with the new Poly Voyager Focus 2, which is a great improvement over the first generation and fully compatible with most of the UC platforms or applications such as Avaya One X, Cisco Jabber, Microsoft Team or RingCentral to mention a few. Thanks to the new versions of the Focus 2 headset you can use this headset not only with the computer or cell phone, but with your office desk phone as well, for this reason you will want this wireless headset for your office!

 

The Poly Voyager Focus 2 now offers the new Digital Hybrid Active Noise Canceling, this feature allows the user to block most of the unwanted noises in their environment and even graduate it at will. With different levels it can be adjusted from not loud places to loudly scenarios. The discrete microphone boom arm offers the new Acoustic Fence technology from Poly, this means that 2 dedicated microphones are aligned towards the user so they can trace the user’s speech and one dedicated microphone towards the outdoor, this microphone’s duty is to substract the unwanted noises from the outside such as loud fans, lawnmowers or those loudly leaf blowers. The Focus 2 has smart sensors that can detect when the headset is being worn and with this the user can pause a streaming by taking the headset off or even answer a call by putting it on. These functions can be customized using the Poly Lens software on the computer or the Poly Lens app on the cell phone. The microphone boom arm has the muting function by simply bringing microphone boom arm up will mute the mic and unmute by bringing down and the boom arm can be worn on either side. The included BT 700 dongle offers the best range of up to 164 feet thanks to its Bluetooth Class 1 and version 5.1 the new redesign of the BT700 offers now a clean design compared with the old one now the way to put the dongle on pairing mode will be using the computer and Poly Lens software versus pressing the pairing key on the dongle.

The Focus 2 offers a talk time of up to 19 hours or up to 40 hours of listening time. The headset offers voice over USB which means that the headset can be used as a corded headset on the computer if the BT700 is not available or if running out of battery as it will charge the headset at the same time that is being used.

Plantronics has released the NEW APU-76 that will convert any Plantronics CS500 wireless headset to be compatible with your softphone/pc.  With this cable you will no longer be tied to the desk/pc and you will be able to answer calls away from the desk.

NOTE: This cable will only work for the Plantronics CS500 wireless headsets.  You can also use this cable and wireless headset combo if you have the Mitel 6867 and Mitel 6869 HID1 desk phones.

This alternative is recommended if you are going to make a switch from your physical desk phone into a softphone based application on your computer and want to keep using your Poly (Plantronics) wireless headsets such as the CS540 or the Savi 7200 Series.

However, if want to get an upgrade on your wireless headset there are going to be some models from Poly that allows you to use it with your desk phone AND your PC as the bases come with the proper cables/adapters that allow to have both devices plugged simultaneously. We will discuss them next:

Jabra (formerly GN Netcom) has launched the next generation of wireless headsets made for office desk phones. These new GN Netcom headsets include the Jabra Engage 65 Mono Wireless Headset System. This new headset that replaced the old Pro 9470 offers dual connectivity and is fully compatible with office desk phones and 1 computer at the same time. The base comes with a micro USB cable to USB-A so it can be plugged to any free USB port on the computer. Thanks to its advanced chipset that offers 3X of wireless density, this translates in more Engage wireless headset in a smaller office without sacrificing performance or creating interruption between headsets. 

The Engage 65 comes in different version as the Mono, Stereo and Convertible.
